Dire wolves, which have been extinct for 10,000 years, are not returning. To truly revive an extinct species, scientists would need to clone it. However, this is currently impossible because DNA from long-extinct animals is rarely preserved well enough for cloning. Despite this scientific hurdle, the idea of de-extinction still offers hope for future generations—our children and grandchildren—to one day encounter creatures like dire wolves. Similarly, many people dream of meeting other long-lost species, from woolly mammoths to Bali's Tiger, sparking both curiosity and ethical debates about humanity’s role in reshaping the natural world.
