There’s never been a better time to own a @slice store.
Pro tip: refine your storefront, polish your products, and get your links ready at slice.so — onchain commerce is back.

Just copped (shop.slice.so/store/1285) feeling nounish
@slice nailed crypto checkout
Apple pay level UX and waaaay better than typing in a credit card
Let me pay in ETH even though it was priced in USDC (boo fiat money)
Wild how far we’ve come. A couple years ago, sub-cent fees + checkout this smooth was a pipedream

Apple’s monopoly on payments is finally over.
Epic won, didn’t think I’d see the day.
You can now use @slice for in-app payments. Just as planned. https://x.com/timsweeneyepic/status/1917706848251134055

i’m in lisbon and as you know there’s a blackout in portugal and spain
perfect time to onboard your favourite restaurant or coffee shop to crypto, as merchants can’t accept card payments
impressive to see the lines to pay with cash, much slower than what we are used to

Shopify clone mini app (with Coinbase Commerce) and Gumroad clone mini app (can do direct payments here) would both be extremely valuable and you would be justified in taking txn fee or saas fee for them
merchants are getting tired of quietly eating the hidden costs

The fact that credit cards take 3%+ of every transaction is so normalized that we only notice when a restaurant dares to show us
The system is so broken that paying digitally costs more than paying with paper

This was a surprising and delightful user journey to use a Mini-app for my most real world need so far. Set up a French sim at local Orange store 3 weeks ago, including commute time took 90min, this took 5min and directly where I spend time online 👏

Worked on a small mini app over the weekend - buy data eSIMs with crypto!
The prices are cheaper than industry standard for most countries. Check it out and would love any feedback!

merchants have it rough. but dispute costs are on the card networks, not on stripe.

great article by @orishim on the evolution of commerce, from traditional platforms to decentralized protocols. https://x.com/orishim/status/1906804719676178626
crypto is scrambling to imitate the apple pay experience, while apple is quietly trying to imitate @slice pay 😏 https://x.com/wesbos/status/1911812039531508011
i think ima double down building on commerce (ai x crypto)
Thanks trump for market boring 🤧
Although a bunch of ecom companies had some high profile blowups, I'm surprised how little the handful of winners are talked about
Chewy IPO'd at $14B and got acquired for $3.35B
Poppi got acquired for $2B by Pepsi
Butcher Box is quietly shipping meat to people's homes for $500M/year

- it's just a matter of time before most businesses move onchain. it's a win-win-win for buyers, merchants and suppliers. slowly, then all at once.
- ux is catching up fast with web2 commerce. at @slice we're focusing on the last few blockers, after that it's all downhill
- /commerce will become the main @ethereum real-world use case

the best part is that higher margins are just one of the many reasons businesses choose @slice https://x.com/bobbythakkar/status/1900743145463140622

why the future of commerce is onchain
- merchants receive funds instantly
- no chargebacks by default
- no bad surprises from intermediaries https://x.com/ama_a93/status/1899876550993977815

credit card processing fees for merchants are ~2.9% + a fixed fee, usually $0.30 or less. debit is much more reasonable with no % fee and only a fixed fee, which is why some merchants are debit/cash only
so even if onchain payments on a cheap L2 like /base aren’t “free” since the merchant needs to off-ramp USDC with a spread of 0.5-1%, this is still a huge improvement for their payment processing
put simply: crypto is a meaningful improvement for merchants vs. legacy systems

why is crypto better for IRL small businesses than existing payment rails?
the same reasons it's better than fiat: decentralization, self-custody, borderlessness, composability, no intermediaries, speed - and of course higher margins.
fear of adoption is the vector sum of distrust in an unknown financial system and suboptimal ux. the first fades as education spreads, and we're taking care of the second :)

Two thoughts:
1) These videos are getting better -- @jessepollak street interview game getting stronger (we see you G). It's fun watching "normal" people react to offers of crypto 😆
2) Real talk, I don't understand why crypto is better for IRL small businesses than existing payment rails. Is it mainly the fee structure?
I've understood financial bundling (https://haseebq.com/crypto-is-financial-unbundling/ )to be beneficial for businesses because it reduces risk -- though it can also hurt them via chargebacks
Genuine question and curious to learn from folks who know more about the payments space

Probably 2 weeks away from showing demo for a POS built on Coinbase commerce connected to a tap to pay reader module.
Current process (show qr code, user scans, confirms a bunch of shit) is too much.

Stripe used to be the smoothest payments solution for devs. Today, not so much.
This isn’t our current focus, but @slice and onchain purchases improve the status quo by 10-100x.

had one of the best chats about decentralized / onchain commerce today with @orishim, and realised I have so much to share on the topic.
I'll start posting again here to raise awareness that onchain commerce is inevitable, and that you're not bullish enough on ethereum. we'll soon show you why with @slice.

They are still in beta but I believe they are in a perfect place to create a world of abundance for the mavericks.
