My plan over Christmas break is to sit my ass down and crank out as many UX heuristic studies as I can. Also gonna look into buying a website domain and building an actual portfolio website.

Work these past few days has been rough. Also, upper management are dicks and forcing my team to work overtime at 6 in the morning after new years day.

My New Years resolution is to be done with my crap phone rep job and get an entry level UX position. I have a plan, now I just want to get myself to actually commit to it instead of getting distracted and procrastinate like I usually do.

When the pain of the problem becomes greater than the pain of the solution, that's when real change occurs.
let the accountability begin

Spent some time today deconstructing the GFS paper from 2003.

Reviewed the challenges around tensions between consistency and performance in distributed storage systems.

It continues to surprise me how basic very large systems are when broken down into their components.
Yesterday I watched the introduction, and today I watched the lecture on RPC and threads.

I'm enjoying the process, but my lack of familiarity with Go is going to be a problem. I can either continue with the course, trying to pick up Go as I go (ha), or switch to a different topic that is more introductory.

I'll watch lecture three tomorrow and then make a decision. I've found that just watching these courses without trying to implement the problems myself results in very little retained knowledge. So I'm better off choosing a topic I can commit to and implement now than something that seems aspirational but slides off my brain in a few weeks.
I commit to spending 30-60 minutes at the beginning of each work day actively watching and taking notes on a series of lectures by robert morris on distributed systems at MIT.

i'll target ~1 lecture per day, with the goal of finishing by the end of november.
