While I was collecting my thoughts this week and writing God knows what, a few small, fleeting stories that happened along the way while working came to light. Our photo shoots usually followed the same routine: I would go to the office, pick up a random request, and meet our driver at the appointed time the next day. We would go to the hotel, pick up the guests, drive to the location of their choice, do the shoot, and then bring everyone back.
The trips with the guests lasted from 20 minutes to 2 hours. And during this time, sometimes some interesting or rather unusual situations would occur
Here is one of them.
I arrived at the hotel. The guests were late, but eventually they left. Over time, I have seen all kinds of people - but some still manage to surprise me. I do not judge - everyone is free to do with themselves what they want, and this is completely normal ... But this does not mean that I should like it or that I should admire it. I don't judge what I don't like - but I still don't like it. Haha.

Back to the topic of working as a photographer, it always bothered me how people tend to want the same thing. I started hearing the phrase “We/I want it to be like this photo” literally every day, after only a month of work. Of course, it made it easier - when you have little time and you are working with complete strangers, it is not always possible to get a perfect result. But still, doing the same thing over and over again in this line of work seems like a kind of degradation))
And don’t get me wrong - it’s not only vacationers who want the same thing. I have worked in other countries, and I still heard “We/I want it to be like this”. Most of the time, the only difference was the location, and I essentially had to weigh the beauty or uniqueness of the place against the request “We/I want...”.
People rarely came with their own ideas or asked me to come up with something unique for them - and these shoots were always the most interesting.
And don’t get me wrong - it’s not only vacationers who want the same thing. I have worked in other countries, and I still heard “We/I want it to be like this”. Most of the time, the only difference was the location, and I essentially had to weigh the beauty or uniqueness of the place against the request “We/I want...”.

Life in the Dominican Republic, compared to my home country, felt like a pleasant state of relaxation: endlessly blue skies with gorgeous low-hanging clouds, the sound of the ocean, and fresh, clean air. I enjoyed that much more than life in a noisy metropolis. Even though a place like Bavaro didn’t offer many entertainment options — especially after living even in a small European city.
On the other hand, even finding a good beer, especially a dark one, in Bavaro turned into a real quest. Back home, it was just a quick trip to the nearest store. The local Dominican beer, to be honest, wasn’t great — haha! There was even a legend about one of the brands, “El Presidente”: supposedly, the recipe was a gift from Hitler to the former Dominican dictator Trujillo...

We come into this world and go through these stages like chapters in a book: childhood with its sweet innocence, teenage years full of excitement and discovery, youth where we bloom like a flower, midlife where we start looking inward, and old age where it feels like we’re nearing the end of the journey. In our youth we’re caught up in our outer beauty, like we’re actors on a stage showing off our best selves to the world. But as midlife hits, that shiny surface starts to fade and something deeper wakes up inside us; we begin to focus on our soul, on who we really are, on the hidden meanings behind it all. And then in old age, it’s like we finally get it:

About 40 years ago, during a road trip in Uruguay with my parents, we stopped at a small roadside store. In the back, the owner had a little workshop where he made wooden crafts to sell. I was around 7 years old, and the object that caught my attention the most was a carved bird. Unlike the others on display, it was lying in a bin behind the work table.
The artisan clearly noticed my interest and, without hesitation, asked me, "Do you like that one? It came out with a flaw—here, take it, it’s yours."
Just like that, out of nowhere. I left that place with my beloved seagull (that’s what I’ve always called it—"My Seagull"). To this day, I could never find the flaw.
I wonder if that artisan ever imagined that his gift would accompany me everywhere I've lived—from my childhood bedroom to my current home. Today, it was hanging from the ceiling of the barbecue area, but I think it's time to give it a good cleaning and bring it back into my bedroom.
Do you have a treasure like this?

We got busted! In our hands was the weapon of the crime — a golf club. For a while, we had this silent standoff with the security guards. But one of them — I think he was the boss — started yelling at us.
I don’t know why, but we found it hilarious, and at some point, we just couldn’t hold it in anymore and burst out laughing. That really pissed him off. The other two guards were just standing off to the side, saying nothing.
The angry one kept shouting, definitely threatening us, though we only understood bits and pieces... and we just stood there like idiots, laughing our heads off. 😄
He grabbed the golf club from my friend and started trying to bend it — he was that mad. But we realized that if he could’ve done something to us, he already would have. And us laughing only made it worse.
Not that we were trying to mock him — it just kind of happened.
After bending the club, he called us some not-so-nice names (we did know those Spanish words 😅) and walked off. So we just went home.

While we were being "very quietly" surrounded, we decided to run away and hide at my house. My house was very close - about 100 meters if you make your way through the bushes that were right behind the 8th hole. Pretending not to notice the guards, we slowly walked towards my house. We slipped through the bushes just as two guards were walking towards us around a small lake.
After passing the pool, all we had to do was slip through a short "tunnel" between the pool area of our complex and the part where the stairs to my apartment were. And that's where we got caught 😄 That guard on the motorcycle came from the other side, and the other two were right behind us - we were only a few seconds late, haha.
There was nowhere to run, so we all just stood there, looking at each other. We didn't know what kind of trouble we were in, but we knew it was nothing serious. To be honest, the whole situation was quite funny.

I’m happy when all my loved ones are healthy; when I’m surrounded by likeminded people who support me and all my beginnings; when I can self actualise and make my life more meaningful.

That’s a thoughtful question. If I had to choose just one, I’d say integrity: the ability to stay true to one’s values and words, be honest, and act with consistency. It tends to be the foundation for trust, respect, and deeper connection.

To be honest and sincere, supportive and caring are important qualities of a woman! But at the same time any woman should not forget about her inner world and interests!

WHAT IS YOUR IDEA OF HAPPINESS?
I’m happy when all my loved ones are healthy; when I’m surrounded by likeminded people who support me and all my beginnings; when I can self actualise and make my life more meaningful.
WHAT QUALITY DO YOU APPRECIATE MOST IN A MAN?
That’s a thoughtful question. If I had to choose just one, I’d say integrity: the ability to stay true to one’s values and words, be honest, and act with consistency. It tends to be the foundation for trust, respect, and deeper connection.
WHAT QUALITY DO YOU APPRECIATE MOST IN A WOMAN?
To be honest and sincere, supportive and caring are important qualities of a woman! But at the same time any woman should not forget about her inner world and interests!

I feel like if you play golf by the rules, it’s just a boring, dull game for retirees… Of course, that’s not how we played 😄 Basically, we were just goofing around — it wasn’t about the game itself, it was all about the fun. We didn’t have one of those huge bags with a ton of clubs, or people holding flags at the holes, or… I don’t even know what else you’re supposed to have for that pompous game, hahaha. Like I said, we played terribly — but we had a blast.
At some point, we noticed a security guard riding past us on a motorcycle, and he gave us this weird, not-so-friendly look. A bit later, the same guy passed by again going the other way… which felt a bit suspicious.
Then we saw two more security guards running toward us from the other side — but there was this small artificial lake between us, and they started going around it from both sides, clearly trying to cut us off 😂

Today I had to surprise her at school with her friends and sing her happy birthday song! The joy on her face is unforgettable. I love you daughter.

Happiness used to live in the house we built together — in every warm corner, in the little things filled with love.
Now, after losses, I understand even more clearly: real happiness isn’t walls.
Real happiness is knowing that the people you love are alive, safe, and dreaming about the future.
WHAT QUALITY DO YOU APPRECIATE MOST IN A MAN?
I value courage and determination — when words are backed by real actions. Less talk, more doing.
A man should be reliable, able to stand firm, and committed to his goals.
Respect for women is just as important.
My husband once won my heart this way: even after I said no, he didn’t give up. For several months, he patiently and sincerely pursued me with respect and warmth.

I fixed this golf club as best I could, straightened it out and... it just sat by my front door for a few months. I didn't even think about going and checking it out - like I said, golf balls were easy to get. And then one day my friend came over - this time without alcohol))) We were just chatting when he noticed the club and suggested playing... well, why not?
We went to the driving range, filled our pockets with golf balls and headed to the 8th hole, which was conveniently located behind the house where I was renting an apartment. Everything was going well 🙂 To be honest, we played pretty badly. I think a good player would have scored the ball in 2 or 3 shots; it probably took us 15, haha. But I think the club I found was probably designed for close shots, judging by what I know from the movie "Happy Gilmore". 🙂

Today was a holiday, but it was a strange day. The power went out all over the country. It's never happened before. In my city, we were without power for six hours, so I took advantage and went to see some boats leaving the port.

I like the outdoors more than the indoors. Warm weather is for the beach, hiking, and biking, and cold weather is for snowboarding! Still, it amazes me sometimes how I can sit down in a chair for hours on end, completely absorbed in a project I find interesting.
