Wrist Racers were introduced in 1979 by Knickerbocker Toys. The company, which had been around since 1850, was mainly known for producing stuffed animals and dolls like Raggedy Ann & Andy, as well as more girl-oriented plastic figures like Little Orphan Annie. However, they dabbled in toy cars and action figures, most notably the figures for Ralph Bakshiโ€™s 1978 animated adaptation of The Lord of the Rings.

The concept for Wrist Racers was a Matchbox-sized car that was stored inside a plastic bubble attached to your wrist like a watch. When you wanted to play with the car, you set your hand on a flat surface, like the kitchen floor or the dining room table, extended the ramp from the front, wound up the car, then pressed the release button on the back that caused the plastic bubble to pop open and your car would run down the ramp. This was fun for a while, but after that initial launch, most of the time you just wound up the car and set it down.

Remember Spinnaker?
๐Ÿ•น๏ธ ๐Ÿค“ ๐Ÿ•น๏ธ
Spinnaker Software Corporation primarily created and marketed educational games and applications during the 1980s. They released games, and software that helped to show that there was more one could do with a computer than just drills. They eventually branched out into purely entertainment titles towards the end of the company's lifespan.
๐Ÿ… ๐Ÿ“บ ๐Ÿฅฆ
In February 1994 the company merged with WordStar International and SoftKey Software Products, Inc. to form the new company SoftKey International.
(One of them went on to become a huge World Of Warcraft raid leader)

1963 introduced little girls to a Barbie doll that featured sculpted hair and came with three wigs: a blonde bubble cut, brunette pageboy, and a red flip, along with a wig stand.
๐Ÿ’ˆ ๐Ÿ’ ๐Ÿ’ˆ
Fashion Queen was Barbieโ€™s first foray into hair customization, although these wigs were not meant for styling. A couple years later in 1965, Mattel released doll heads and wigs as part of the Color โ€˜nโ€™ Curl Color Magic play set. Now the styling aspect was very real, as the wigs were meant to be both colored and cut, and the set included extensive styling instructions too! โœจ โœ‚๏ธ ๐Ÿ’‡
The Porta-Communicator was an accessory for the Steve Austin doll manufactured by Kenner in 1976.
๐Ÿ’ฐ ๐Ÿฆธโ€โ™‚๏ธ ๐Ÿ’ฐ
It was a toy that came in two parts. One was a backpack that could be strapped to Steve's back. The other was a microphone connected to the backpack by a wire. When the user spoke into the microphone, a speaker concealed in the backpack would amplify the user's voice. Thus, users could somewhat simulate the effect of talking to Steve remotely.
โœจ ๐Ÿ“ฃ ๐Ÿ“ถ
The packaging on the product was somewhat misleading in that it claimed the device could "transmit" the user's voice to the backpack, and said there was "no limit to the exciting adventures you can create" with the device. The "limit", however, was the length of the wire that connected the two parts of the toy. Though it did say that there was a "10 foot cord included", the packaging seemed to imply wireless communication, as with a walkie-talkie. ๐Ÿคฆ
I'm not sure if it's retro ๐Ÿค” ,
but I think it's been sold in amusement parks for a long time.
I got it from Everland Amusement Park in Korea in 2018. ๐Ÿ˜น ๐Ÿ™Œ ๐Ÿฆ–
In the history of all Christmases that have come to pass, there never was another that turned the American consumer into a stark raving lunatic like the Cabbage Patch Kids craze of 1983.
โœจ ๐Ÿ˜‚ โœจ
In 1982 Coleco was given the right to produce โ€œLittle Peopleโ€ under a new name, Cabbage Patch Kids. They created what most people remember as Cabbage Patch Kids, the vinyl headed, soft-bodied, yarn-haired dolls that sold in stores all over the world.

During the 1983 holiday season, 3 million Cabbage Patch Kids were sold.
News stories documented near riots at shopping malls and retail stores across the country: a pregnant woman trampled by a crazed mob, a shopper who broke her leg in a scuffle, another who was knocked unconscious in a customer rush.

This doll is honestly one of those so bad it's good things. You know, kind of like his show. It feels sleazy and slimy just to look at.
And what better dolls could you find to surround your Jerry Springer doll than those of the 1999 Arsenic & Apple Pie Trailer Park Trash? They seem so perfectly matched.

Street Players was trying desperately to find a foothold in the market of 12 inch dolls in the 1990's. The problem however was that they were consistently producing items that nobody particularly wanted. Dolls based on The Nanny, Dennis Rodman and others just weren't hitting the mark with collectors. Sadly for Springer, nor did this particular doll ๐Ÿ˜‚

Today I found this at my parents' house, a Tarzan from the 90s, I remember that it came with a bow and small arrows but they have already been lost. It had a small motion sensor and if you passed your hand over his chest the doll would let out the traditional Tarzan cry ^^ XD It doesn't have batteries right now, but I think I'll do a little surgery to remove that sensor to see if it still works. I could use it for fun purposes.
Bought during covid - did a lot of collecting then lol ๐Ÿ˜†

Heavy Metal figure Signed also by Julie Strain

But my best item is this Kenner ROTJ Leia, that price tag was 2/$1 - crazy lol.
Howdy friends, happy Friday!

Remember the Talkboy?
๐Ÿ”‰ ๐Ÿ•ต๏ธ ๐Ÿ”‰
The Talkboy was basically a portable variable-speed cassette player and recorder manufactured by Tiger Electronics.
It was originally conceived as a non-working prop for the 1992 movie Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. The real functioning model was released for the 1992 holiday shopping season/Home Alone 2 movie release and it was priced at US$29.99.
Several spinoff versions of the device with other features were also later produced.
(Talkgirl, Talkboy/girl FX Plus, Talkboy/girl Jr, and my favorite the clear Talkboy!)

Remember Bow Biters!?
๐Ÿ‘Ÿ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ ๐Ÿ‘Ÿ
Bow Biters were plastic clips made by Brookside Enterprises in the late 80s that could be tied into sneaker laces to help keep shoes tied. The clip had a character's face on the front that "bites" the knot when the laces are tied into the character's mouth!

I think Garfield's Bow Biters were my faves!
In December 1982, Atari released the video game, 'E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial'
โœจ ๐Ÿ•น๏ธ ๐Ÿ‘ฝ
This is the ad for the ill-fated ET game for the Atari 2600. This game was widely cited as a major contributing factor to the video game crash of 1983.

Spielberg was unimpressed.
"Couldn't you do something more like Pac-Man?" he asked. ๐Ÿ˜‚ ๐Ÿ˜‚

Who remembers these portable record players from Panasonic?
They were rated for 33โ…“ rpm or 45rpm records of 7", 10" or 12" and had a
built-in AM radio too.
It sounded horrible and ran on 4 D-cell batteries or 120v AC.
