Going in to meet with the SEC Task Force with some folks.

What are the biggest SEC-related frictions that projects are facing right now and how would you like to see them ameliorated?
The type of organization most suited for human & AI collaboration is the DAO, not the corporation.

Most people appear not to know what a constitutional crisis is
Trump’s unprecedented invocation of emergency powers under the IEEPA to impose tariffs (and the prevailing view that courts will defer to him) calls to mind Carl Schmitt’s definition of the sovereign as “he who can invoke emergency.”
A truly innovative social media network would arm users with filters that allow them to toggle between opposing perspectives on a contentious issue
Perhaps Trump is too much of a “crypto President.” It’s like when the genie grants your wish too literally.
In an earlier article for @coindesk, I used the term "PolicyFi" to describe how speculative markets for memecoins can create a new form of civic engagement between citizen and state.

In the wake of the Trump memecoins, I decided to revisit that thesis and ask if we are seeing the dawn of PolicyFi.

I believe the answer is yes.

Initially, I was like “why would we put government spending on the blockchain,” as Elon Musk is suggesting.

And then I remembered that the Pentagon has failed every audit for the last six years and could not account for $1.9 trillion of its budget.

Maybe it’s not a bad idea.

Committing to open & permissionless networks also means not always liking the results. You can’t have it both ways.
Additional thoughts on the Nouns DAO transition to a DUNA and what it means, and some ideas for the future.

At first gradually then all at once
The benefits of tokenized securities include improved liquidity, fractional ownership, and faster settlement.

They will rapidly become part of the most developed and innovative capital markets in the world.

The SEC statement announcing the creation of the crypto task force is worthy of a good faith public regulator.

The prior approach was not just unfair; it was also opaque, patronizing and tactical.

A new dawn for crypto at the SEC 🌅

A silver lining of the $TRUMP and $MELANIA coins is that I’ve never seen more people engaged with how to use the viral capital aggregation mechanism of memecoins towards more constructive, philanthropic or productive ends.

That’s something I’ve been thinking about a lot.

America onchain (but please not all at once)
Despite market reaction, executive orders regarding crypto are on the way.

They reportedly track items mentioned in our open letter as an immediate priority:

1) Repeal SAB 121, which made it hard for banks to hold crypto.

2) Reverse Chokepoint 2.0, which de-banked industry actors.

As a lawyer (and a crypto VC) who recently joined the DAO, I thought I would chime in on the DUNA proposal, especially as we are in the process of appointing an administrator.

I realize the DAO has chosen a path here, and my goal is not to change it but rather educate members and create greater transparency.

Will this be the mood for the rest of the year or do we settle down and start talking about the future again?
What a decade this week has been…

How do you know that we are entering an age of memetic public policy and PolicyFi?

I was glad to help lead this effort by the crypto law bar to outline crypto policy priorities for the incoming administration.

Regulatory policy governing crypto will be recast over the coming years. As an industry, we should do our best to communicate clearly and, as much as possible, unanimously.

Excited to engage with the Nouns community on a potential experiment with a governance AI agent.

Nouns has a great community and is the perfect context for something like this.

Let’s rekindle the creative flame within Nouns, and let’s do it together.

Great interview, Laura. Shaw is right that how we develop AI will determine who owns the the means of production in the future. There is much more at stake here than people realize.

Is there a Rule of Compounding Memes?

That is to say, if you overlay a memecoin on a memechain, do both memes become stronger or do they exhaust each other?
What do people think about customized Farcaster clients?

This would lead to a better experience for many communities, which value different things, and remove some of the pollution on the Warpcast main feed.
Should there be a “trending tips” feed on the home screen?

I think so.

Tips is one of the dominant ways that people approach content on the app.

What do others think?

All other UI will be optimized for AI agents.

We need to be talking about meme infra—MemeFra.

Memecoin communities are not content to be transient or static fads. They want to build virtual cities. They want to matter.

This is an evolutionary process. It begins with crypto’s lowest life-form, but it can grow into a movement.

Ignore at your peril.
