Network States

Discuss network states and startup societies

A Network State is basically a bunch of scieniuses connected together, divorced from physical geography.
Do you make decisions based on data and facts or pre-conditioned emotions?
Yesterday, we had a presentation on Memecoins, and as a grand finale, we had to make one ourselves.

The theme was Network School (of course), and let me tell you, creating memes takes a special kind of genius. It’s like an art form, and I’ve just discovered that my work is… well, pretty lame. But hey, here’s my masterpiece—don’t laugh (or do) hehe!

Dr.James Robinson wins the 2024 Nobel Prize in Economic Sciences for his foundational work on the nature of institutions that cause a nation/state to prosper or to fail.

In the Innovation Civ Podcast, he summarizes his life's work. Full episode here: https://innovationcivilization.substack.com/p/why-nations-fail-a-historical-analysis

I think we should spur on a discussion on what set and nature of institutions a network state needs to succeed?

pop up cities already exist - they’re called refuge camps
Afaik this is the first ever large scale funding to develop a network state city.

We live in an amazing era

from twitter re prospera:
In this week’s Network School lecture, we explored the histories of countries like China, Russia, India, and Singapore.

One of the most interesting topics was American journalist Walter Duranty, who served as Stalin’s voice in the 1930s, in contrast to Gareth Jones, who courageously exposed the Ukrainian Holodomor.

Here’s an article I wrote earlier about their stories—take a look!

Arrived at the network school two days ago and i can already tell there is something special in there. Its not a crypto circle jerk thing, there is a lot more diversity in background (also a lot more women), the lifestyle is healthy (the gym, the food, the work, the learn, the meet).

Its the worst version and yet its already amazing. Sadly this year i can't stay as long as i'd like to but at least we got to check out the place and we known that if we're accepted again, we'll be back next year

If that's interesting to people i'll share more about why this place is unique in a longer post
Digital residency in places like Palau and Estonia feel like steps on the path to network states but by turning existing nations into networks
Today’s talk at the Network school by @balajis.eth, highlighting the potential of AI filmmaking to tell untold stories, inspired me to create an alternative history video for India, exploring a scenario where Subhas C. Bose, a contemporary of Gandhi, survived and led the nation down an ambitious path of growth and strength—taking India, quite literally, to the stars.

Round 1 of our crowdfunding is now closed! 🎉🎊

We've raised over $100k from 63 backers including Balaji (!), AuraSci, This Investor, MuseMatrix, YY Ventures, and founders of top projects in the DeSci space such as @VitaliaCity and @vita_dao.

What does this all mean? 👇
Balaji mentioned how Solzhenitsyn had to secretly write “The Gulag Archipelago” while being watched by the KGB, hiding his manuscript in fear of arrest.

He smuggled the work out of the USSR piece by piece, trusting a handful of friends, and even after the KGB seized his original copy, he managed to get a version published in the West.

He risked his life and freedom to expose the truth.

And now, here we are, writers today talking about “writer’s block” while sipping lattes at Starbucks? 😂

How can blockchain scale to millions of transactions while keeping your data private?

@EliBenSasson's talk explained how Zero Knowledge tech uses math-based proofs to ensure both privacy and scalability, allowing blockchain systems to verify integrity without revealing sensitive information, making them exponentially more efficient and secure.
Inspired by Pieter Levels, I once took the time to reassess how I was spending my days, and that reflection led to some incredible changes.

Now, with a new schedule at the Network School, I’m applying those insights even further.

It’s surprising how small adjustments, like improving my diet, staying socially active in the community and adjusting my sleep habits, made such a quick impact on my skin, energy, and productivity in just a few weeks.

I hosted a writers' meetup at the Network School lu.ma/g8vd3tsa ,and one moment stood out:

Someone threw in Hemingway’s powerful quote: "𝙏𝙝𝙚𝙧𝙚 𝙞𝙨 𝙣𝙤𝙩𝙝𝙞𝙣𝙜 𝙩𝙤 𝙬𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜. 𝘼𝙡𝙡 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙙𝙤 𝙞𝙨 𝙨𝙞𝙩 𝙙𝙤𝙬𝙣 𝙖𝙩 𝙖 𝙩𝙮𝙥𝙚𝙬𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙗𝙡𝙚𝙚𝙙."

Hemingway’s words remind me that writing is not just an act of creativity, but an act of courage. It’s about pouring yourself onto the page, unafraid to expose the raw, messy truth that lies beneath.

Just saw this and thought, "This is literally what I'm doing here!" 😎 Everything in one.

It’s actually the perfect environment to build healthy habits and stay focused.

Gonna be pretty wild when they legally overturn the 2020 election.

Unprecedented event and unprecedented fraud.
