musings and meditations

people are never pure good or evil

we each have both dark and light in us

sometimes the environment we are shaped in brings out one side more than the other

the really special ones are those who become roses born in a bed of concrete, that defy the odds and keep their softness to them even in a brutal, harsh world

on/motivation

motivation is more often the result of action rather than the inspiration for it

take the first step, build momentum, and watch what happens

“As long as you live, keep learning how to live.” - Seneca

That's it. That's the cast.

I saw a question today that really had me thinking...

"What is the most memorable moment you shared with a complete stranger who you never saw again?"

10 hours later and I'm still thinking about it. I have some moments, but trying to think about one that really stands out.

You?

on/relationships:

space, not distance
attention, not attachment
respect, not worship
love, not loss of self

one of my favorite writers/thinkers was Mary Shelley, the 19th century author who wrote Frankenstein

in her book "The Last Man" she wrote:

"There is but one solution to the intricate riddle of life; to improve ourselves, and contribute to the happiness of others"

this one line shaped my philosophy on life & purpose

A quote I reflect on often:
“You're under no obligation to be the same person you were 5 minutes ago.” - Alan Watts

In other words, do not allow your past choices to become an anchor to an identity that you have outgrown

People will try to box you in and put labels on you for their own comfort - don't let them

your unique gift can also feel like a curse because most will not understand you

by definition, your gift is something that makes you unique, different

do not let that discourage you

unapologetically bring your gift to the world so that those who need you most can find you

perceived self-worth = our potential - our unfaced fears

our self-esteem is a function of the distance between who we are and who we know we can be

when suffering from a feeling of a lack of self-worth, ask yourself "what am I avoiding?"

to improve our self-esteem, close the gap

move towards the fear

base your boundaries on your values, not your fears

boundaries based on fear are walls; impenetrable and opaque barriers that nothing penetrates, not even light

boundaries based on values are transparent and powerful; open communication flows through

key difference: you hide behind walls; you stand behind boundaries
The beauty you see in others is a reflection of the beauty within yourself.

Look for the beauty in others and you'll find the beauty within yourself.

Beauty sees beauty.
Going to start this channel off with one of my daily mantras to myself:

think bigger
Started /baz as a way to collect some of my cast-sized thoughts and inspirations from my daily writing practice

Will touch on topics such as core values, principles, purpose, relationships, philosophy, art, and just trying to be a better human

Let's connect dots and go deeper than platitudes and clichés
