First got into photo bc I loved skateboarding but wasn't that good a skater. My camera gave me access to a world in which I would have otherwise been an outsider (still does). One of the 1st pics I ever captured on 35mm back in high school. Watching this appear in the tray of developer in the dark room was everything.

Don't ever doubt the fact that you can shoot film at night. I took this in 2005 when we awoke to the empty fraternity house next door going up in flames! The response by the LAFD was swift. Rumor was the frat set the fire themselves to collect insurance money to rebuild, since they'd been kicked off the row.

Here's another shot I took with the 4x5 camera a few years back at Prairie Creek Redwood State Park in Northern California. Go out, touch some grass and make some images!

One of the finest tools in my quiver is a Calumet 4x5 camera that was passed down to me from my Aunt Sylvia. It's quite simply a feat of engineering, and it's a total beast to lug around weighing somewhere upwards of 30 pounds in its case with neg holders. But when I do make photos with it, the details are stunning.

Bonnie in Tulum, Mexico
35mm Kodak Ektar 100

I love Ektar 100 for the saturated colors. This image is a great example of the colors this film produces. I especially love the orangey-red petals on the ground beneath the tree. Bonnie sits on her bicycle finding a patch of soil beneath her and a patch of light above her.

Ilford HP5 tends to be my go-to when it comes to black and white film. Even though it's 400 ISO, the grain is relatively fine, the contrast is medium to high, and the tonal range is broad i.e. you get really dark blacks and really light whites with every subtle shade of gray in between.

gm! Sharing a contact sheet to illuminate a bit more of the process behind shooting film. The first half is from a whale-watching trip to the Farallones Islands off the coast of SF (hence the cool perspective of the Golden Gate) and the second half was taken up in Tomales Bay, Marin County.๐ŸŽž๏ธ
