Excuse me while I geek out about health tech for a minute! It’s exciting to see how the landscape is evolving, with real strides being made in using quality health data to deliver value-based care. I had a moment where I realized that many of the theories and conversations we once had at Bloomberg School of Public Health about best practices for the future are now being put into practice in real-world settings. It’s incredible to see how far we’ve come, not just from an academic standpoint, but also from a business perspective.
“the cognitive deficits were equivalent to a 20-year acceleration (e.g. performance of a 50-year old at the 70-year old level)”
the correlation implied here is odd:
“There was some protection noted with higher educational level”

I work as an occupational therapist at an inpatient psychiatric hospital.
Last year I came up with an idea after watching the Great British Baking Show with my wife…
The Ultimate Baking Championship
Groups of patients, supervised by their respective OT, will bake up their best dessert ideas to see who will be the UBC Winner.
My first group will attempt baking a carrot cake this morning. Wish us luck 🤞

I do a lot of work in public health; my team delivers vaccines [COVID, flu - soon Hepatitis]; health screenings for diabetes. We’re next going to add dental exams. It’s really sad [but also rewarding] to meet people without any healthcare in rural communities.

kickoff in twenty three minutes…
Are there remote-first healthcare clinics?
In Humboldt county there are very few medical clinics, it's also a problem in many rural areas
Is there a remote first clinic where medical assistants or nurses could be in the remote location and doctors could be on live calls with live data monitoring?

Mental health [from the healthcare industry perspective] has a _throw more bodies at it_ problem; where they can’t prioritize the science without more funding for providers + drugs… like when was the last major breakthrough in MH research?
That’s a lot of damage… we’ll see how much health data got hacked over the next few weeks and months

“The PREVENT DIABETES Act would make diabetes prevention care for those on Medicare permanent and more accessible online in order to help address widespread disparities in access to diabetes care in medically underserved communities, including Black and Latino communities and rural areas.”
Kind of crazy to think that the cost to sequence a genome went from $3B to $200 in twenty years…
And our health system still doesn’t deliver routine care based on genomic markers
