i agree with @kyle that crypto is financial infra, and it is a big miss if we assume financial = speculation OR financial =/= culture.

the most popular consumer apps are both social and financial:
- flip, whatnot, tiktok: social commerce platforms
- roblox, pokemon go, clash of clans: in-app purchases for virtual goods
- gas, sendit, ngl: premium features for fun, social boosts
- youtube, twitch: tipping, subscriptions, channel memberships

all of these apps integrate financial features to monetize (to survive and grow) without turning the user experience into a casino.

contrast that with apps where speculation is the core experience: draftkings, online poker, sweepstakes casinos, etc.

in those, winning or losing money is the product. different design choice, different user experience.

financial infra can power commerce, entertainment, creativity, connection outside of pure speculation.

how we communicate and frame the financial part is important, especially when it comes to the purpose of an app.
Proof of human is a bad way to think about the fundamental problem

The irony is proof of human is way less valuable in web3 vs. web2.

In web2, you monetize via ads. At least right now, AIs (i.e. bots) aren't influenced by ads.

In web3, you monetize via transactions. AIs can do transactions. And as a developer, if you're monetizing via transactions, in most cases you don't care if the transaction is from a human or from an AI. You just care that it happened.
zkTLS idea: internal leaderboard for interacting with company accounts on social media. Verify reposts, comments and likes from employees to earn tshirts and vacation days without doxxing personal accounts
The accurate way to frame this is Dan came to our office out of respect since he was in town.

One thing I love seeing is investors with strong conviction on a specific thesis.

Luc’s been on the Farconomy thesis long before some founders raised in this space.

At the end of the day, probably much like you, I got into the space via the idea of being able to provide humans with sovereign property rights that algorithms are forced to respect in a way that is expensive for groups of humans to manipulate. I think at that time, the vision of an authoritarian government being the enemy seems more pertinent; but now it certainly is more likely a machine that you need to protect your sovereignty against

Another thing is that I believe is that finance is made better with verifiable, algorithmic covenants — and the only place pushing that forward is crypto. I believe in the following axiom:

Anything that can have a market will (eventually) have a decentralized market

And that's one thing the AI can't take away from us!
Alok @dawufi thinks restaurant reviews with proof of ethnicity would be useful.

Thanks for the h/t @dabit3. It’s true, blockchains are by themselves useful. This explains why even though so much VC funding is deployed we have yet to break out of our own industry in a meaningful way.

I wanted to point out a part of Chris Dixon’s recent article I think is incorrect. The lack of utility of Defi is better explained by the fundamental limitations of blockchains vs regulatory bottlenecks.

We already have products like Earnifi (linked below) gaining adoption offering stablecoin alternatives to the predatory payday lending industry. This was unlocked by new regulations but zkTLS. The ability for users to port their own data from APIs like Gusto/Workday.

Blockchains by themselves are limited in utility by verifiability of the world. This thesis has been validated.

Hello Farcaster! Im Kunal, the founder and CEO at Showdown.win! I used to play CS2 and FIFA at a semi pro level until I realised my skills got no rewards to show for years of gaming. So, I decided to build a platform where skill is the only currency and pay outs are instant!

Being reasonable everyone brushed it off and were skeptical.

Now my entire CT feed is people bull posting zkTLS.

The next big "L1" opportunity isn't higher TPS or lower fees for smart contract devs.

It's making crypto rails accessible to a new, emerging set of builders: AI app / agent devs.

AI devs will build on crypto rails for two reasons:
1. Create product differentiation and lock-in by incentivizing users via tokens to contribute to improving model performance
2. Power increasingly autonomous (and eventually sovereign) agents who can capitalize themselves via internet capital markets, make payments, acquire compute, etc.
Finally wrote up this idea I had for a new narrative in crypto. The idea of Frames is actually thesis aligned funny enough.

How Opacity x Digg happened solidified why i’m so bullish Farcaster. Here’s the story.

@yb wrote this banger article on zkTLS and Opacity last year. Def subscribe to him.

Kevin Rose came across it and randomly DMd me on Warpcast and Twitter. We quickly hopped on a call and he conveyed excitement about zkTLS and that he could use it.

I sent a slack invite and Lo and Behold Digg joined on the other end. Will post an update when I can share more details 😉.

——-

@yb, a farcaster native, wrote an article that landed me a deal of a lifetime. Cherry ontop, i had no idea who Krose was or the history of Digg 😂.

Thanks @yb for your great writing

Thanks @v and @dwr.eth for making a network where i could shit post my way to PMF 🫡

Many consumer crypto protocols are like designing a hammer based on what nail manufacturers think people need, rather than understanding the pain points users experience.

Instead of solutions that serve infrastructures’ needs, focus on solving real problems users face. The best compass isn't speculation—it's watching real people navigate real challenges.

In practice, it’s very difficult to assess these things from first principles. You actually have to hypothesis test with users for validation.

EW + ZK TLS = value^2

I’ve been tinkering with consumer crypto for the past few months in an attempt to build something that engages and delights non-crypto people with the intent of secretly getting them on crypto rails.

Long story short, an embedded wallet and ZK TLS on top of a great product will get us there.

Embedded wallets = user accrues real-world value.

ZK TLS = user can bring web 2 value to web3 privately.

EW + ZK TLS = value^2
