A place for tea lovers to discuss and enjoy all things tea
Mostly taste preference. I've tried coffee several times and the taste is always off putting.
Depending on where you are, you can get great tea from local Asian markets! Brands I tend to get are either ito-en or Yamamotoyama.
Matcha is arguably the most popular; it's quite gentle. Oolong and Jasmine are fantastic imo, and Hojicha has a really bold flavor due to being roasted. When brewing just try to be mindful of the temperatures (near or below boiling) as green tea can end up extra bitter if left in hot water too long.
There's also bottled teas from ito-en which I'd say are iconic staples— refreshing and convenient way to try tea!

Is the choice of tea over coffee a taste preference or for some other reason? Tea drinkers fascinate me, I always feel like I’ve found an alien 👽 also, and green tea recs?
I am Japanese, so I often drink green tea, and I actually like this tea the best!!
Karada meguricha (からだ巡茶)

The methods of making matcha are divided into:
1. Light matcha (usucha) - whisking matcha powder with water, using a smaller ratio of powder.
2. Thick matcha (koicha) - whisking matcha powder with water, using a larger ratio of powder.
3. Matcha latte - whisking matcha powder with milk, which will have the aroma and flavor of milk overpowering the matcha.

going from real chai to the sweetened chai concentrate at coffee shops is a brutal transition

Got a very headache today due to too many pt. this morning did 10 patients in 3 hrs. 🥹
2 more specialist tasks in the afternoon and would be free.
Dunno if that's a headache from hardwork or caffeine addiction🤣

Guess how much is my chashaku cost?
For whom dont know It's a matcha spoon which is 1 scoop of it = 1/3 of teaspoon and it's about 1g of matcha powder approximately 😊

2nd bowl with bamboo whisk , ah it's super easier than resin whisker.
Very demure , very mindful

After doing this alomost every day for 2yrs. I just realised how much money I whisked 🤣🤣.
Today I made Usucha, which I hadn't done in a long time, so I chose bamboo chasen.
The most important thing is to warm chasen before performing. BTW , big difference between resin and bamboo chasens are comb thickness and its resistance.
Whisking with bamboo is a lot easier.
The result was as I expected: clean, soft foam. how satisfying ahhh.

tessa almond cookie x apple crumble dried fruit medley x a pinch of decaf french vanilla loose leaf = spiritual coziness
My ceremonial grade matcha stock was just empty. Only premium grade Yabukita matcha available in my fridge. So I boost the flavour up with coconut juice!

Tea bar in Koto tea house.
I really want to have one at home cos I'm too lazy to prepare equipment everyday.
I have to pick things up one by one when I wanna make matcha ; scale , powder , chawan , blablabla.
If I had a tea bar, I could just keep the equipment there! 😂😂

Today I went to Koto Tea Space, one of the matcha shops I mentioned before, just know it's owned by a Japanese person.
They often bring matcha senseis from Japan to teach in Thailand as well. The shop has a rather conventional way, which is included a ceremonial preparation too.,
Btw the matcha blend is really impressive.
Today, I chose the Uji blend Asahi + Saemidori + Narino, which is very deep in flavor.

Another late summer love: bubble tea (no sugar added). This passion fruit + lemon one is very refreshing.
My wife started a blog, figured I’d do my duty and share it. By far much better writer than I am. I’ve also come to (slowly) appreciate afternoon tea much more.

Trying out a new matcha specialty shop: APA Matcha. They have a signature drink, which is a rose syrup matcha cold foam.
Funny thing is when I asked the owner, he said that if you usually drink usucha / clear matcha, you shouldn't order because it won't work. Single origin is better.
What a straightforward person!

This is example of menu in Thai matcha shop ,
Just look at what I've circled;
I try to explain that high-grade matcha can be used to make clear matcha or usucha,
but lower grades will have a bitter and astringent taste, such as premium grade and culinary grade,
which makes it unsuitable for making clear matcha or only possible but not very good.
The top part over the grade refers to the varieties of matcha.

I recently discovered steamed milk in tea. Why has no one told me I can have foamy tea like the coffee people?
Took a break from yard work today to treat myself to a thai iced tea. Definitely hit the spot! 😎
drinking a gift right before expiry lmeow, had it for >3 years and tastes surprisingly delicious
Of all the goodies I’ve gotten from Farcon so far I’m most excited to bring home the sencha I bought from @beecurious; can’t wait to try it!!
