Saw this fun Arnolfini Portrait kind of mirror, thought I'd take a cool selfie.

I appreciate all seasons, but one of the reasons I love spring is because it's the start of the free food cycle which culminates in autumn and turns bearish in winter 🤭

My favourite early herbs to forage are stinging nettle and ground elder - they can be cooked similarly to spinach.

I'll share the dishes I've made with them in the replies, and this is the general prep:

1. Gather young tender leaves
2. Remove the stems
3. Pour boiling water and let them soak for a minute (check for any debris)
4. Strain the leaves and squeeze out the remaining moisture
5. Chop them up

The last photo is a pie filling I made with stinging nettle, eggs, cottage cheese and fried onion 🥟

My whole life for the past year has been focused on relaxing, taking things easy and avoiding stress. Honestly, it was bliss, and even then I found some silly things to get anxious about.

But life decided enough is enough and threw 5+ side quests at me that I have to manage all at the same time + work got more intense.

Benefits:
- I feel way more motivated and productive, the brain is fired up and I love it
- I go to bed earlier cause I actually get tired during the day

Drawbacks:
- my shoulders are hella stiff, and it's difficult to persuade myself to do something relaxing like yoga because the brain just wants to do things
- hard to get into head space for social media because it requires relaxation 😔 Even though I have a lot of things I'd like to share, spending time here feels unproductive. The brain just says - if you want to relax, go sleep! If not, do something useful.

So please, bear with my late replies, it's me against my brain and the latter is winning 😭

(The photo is a metaphor)

I’m not the only one seeing them — one was spotted on the swingset by my kids as well 👀
Our neighbour gave us ~5 kilos of cranberries for free on the condition that I have to make him something tasty out of them.

I was eyeing a cranberry custard pie recipe for years, and today I finally made an attempt at it to see if it is good enough for that gift.

Pros:
- the recipe turned out to be very simple, difficult to mess up
- not too sweet, nice cranberry flavour
- looks impressive

Cons:
- the shortbread crust is very difficult to cut with a knife/spoon, maybe I should have used another recipe for it, or underbaked
- the colour is kinda underwhelming. I think it has to be served with cranberry purée to look more exciting

Maybe the obvious thing for a gift should be cranberry jam, but that's too boring imo. What else can be made with cranberries?

There are two facts I learned today about these pretty flowers:

- thought they were forget-me-nots, but they're actually called a brunnera

- half of them wilted almost immediately when I put them in the vase 😬

Struggling with audacity today:

1. I wrote a very detailed email to a manufacturer of some tools I was interested in to clarify which ones I should order for my use case.

The sales manager answered that he would prefer to discuss it over the phone. Made me want to drop this purchase altogether (but I pushed and got the info in the next email) 😤

2. A pie recipe told me to cool shortbread dough for 6 hours or even better overnight. Who tf has this much time while making a pie 🙄 In my books it's cooling for as long as I make the filling, and that's it
I love love love the change of seasons 🥹

Do you ever get a feeling when you enjoy the moment you're in so much, you almost feel guilty for not appreciating it even more?

I wish I could dissolve myself in those fresh leaves, blossoms and blue sky, to just take it all in fully...

We received so much positive energy, kind wishes, love and support in the past couple of days it really warms my heart and makes me feel so lucky to be a part of this community 🥹💔

Just wanted to share the progress:

We had an oncologist appointment today to discuss the surgery. It was a little bit of a mixed bag:

Bad news:
- the tumor is inflamed, so we have to work on reducing that inflammation before considering surgery. Lada will be taking anti-inflammatory pills until the next appointment on May 3rd, do hope they work and we can move forward with the surgery 🙏 I'm only worried it doesn't get worse in the meantime.
- also the doctor cautioned me about being too optimistic, with a tumor this size there can be relapses after the surgery, chemotherapy might be needed, and it might not be successful.

Good news:
- blood results came back stellar, which means there is no wide spread infection 🥳
- Lada generally feels fine, enjoys life, food and attention from us ❤️‍🩹

Something absolutely magical and fantastic happened to me today, and @bertwurst.eth was the magician that made it happen.

Yesterday I made a cast about my dog Lada needing an unexpected surgery for a tumor - just shared my worries and anxieties, like I usually do here.

I was very grateful to receive a lot of support and encouragement, it lifted my spirits and gave me strength to go forward 🙏

But never in my life could I expect that a simple cast like that would turn into a crowdfunding (?!?!) 😳 AND it would be completed within 3 hours?!?! 😳😳😳

That's the kind of magic that can only happen on Farcaster.

Bert, you're our guardian angel. I will be grateful to you forever for reaching out when we were struggling and showing such beautiful kindness.

HUGE thanks to everyone who contributed to the donation. It means I can focus on providing the best care for my dog and not worry about the finances 😭

Lada sends her kisses to each and every one of you 💜 And I wish I could hug you all! 🫂

LOOK WHAT WE CAN DO IN THREE HOURS! 🎉

The crowdfund is complete, with 55 people giving to raise a total of $1,034.23 to help Lada!

I’m honestly overwhelmed. Not just by how fast it happened, but by the kindness, generosity, and sheer power of this community.

You’ve reminded me (again) that this place isn’t just about crypto, memes, and chaos — it’s about community, and showing up for each other.

Whether you gave money, shared the post or the link, or sent kind words: Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.

With love, tail wags, and a slightly teary face,
Bert 💜
Happy Earth day everyone 🌍

I loved the @buildoncyber Earthling campaign, it was exciting to see so many regens joining in and sharing their eco habits. Can we make it a regular thing please??

I love being incentivised to share sustainability hacks and habits 🤤

Regen hack #1

Get yourself some mesh baggies for buying fruits & veggies. No more of those nasty little plastic bags!

I've had the same set of those for ~5 years. Since I go grocery shopping 1-2 times a week, and I usually buy up to 5 different types of produce, then I must have saved ~1500 plastic bags already 😱

@buildoncyber
Been anxious since yesterday because our dog Lada has not been feeling well - not critically so, but what worried me is that I couldn't figure out the reason. She's also lost some weight in the past months...

Today I noticed she was licking her belly and when I looked I saw a huge tumour that I haven't seen before 😭

We drove to the vet to have her examined (which was very stressful for her of course) and thankfully the tumour is just in the mammary gland and other organs are not affected.

Now we have to prepare for surgery, which is doubly stressful because I haven't really planned financially for it (and that brings up a lot of self hate).

Still I'm looking at the bright side, grateful that the issue seems straightforward and as practice shows it could have been much worse.

Lada is 11 y.o. already but I'm hoping she'll be with us for at least 5 more years 🥺

Just a daily commuting outfit:

- coat - Only, bought in 2008 when I was in high school. Still good except for the tattered sleeves, but I've come to embrace this as fashionable 😅
- shirt - H&M LOGG, thrifted
- jeans & boots - Zara, thrifted
- backpack - Jack Wolfskin, a husband hand-me-down 🤭
- sunglasses - Betsey Johnson, a gift from mom

This is basically what my wardrobe consists of: thrifted / hand-me-downs / old things, and I wouldn't have it any other way 💚

I think the reason for that is emotional connection - an excitement from a lucky find in a thrift shop, my own memories or the thought of a loved one make simple clothes delightful to wear. Fast fashion could never!

I visited a beautiful mansion built in the 1880s once. One of its features was a ventilation system that automatically sucked out dust from every room.

It's 2025 and I'm still to encounter a feature like that in a modern house.

If I ever get insanely rich, there will be signs...

An eventful weekend:
- held a photosniper camera for the first time
- held a vintage rifle for the first time

You can tell which sniping tool I prefer 🤭
(also the rifle was heavyyy)

Share your favourite audiobooks!

My all time favourite is Eugene Onegin read by Stephen Fry.

It's a trifecta of brilliance - Pushkin's genius, amazing translation by James E. Falen and Fry's masterful warm narration.

Perfect to listen to while travelling 😌

Nothing is more humbling than looking into a UK visa and seeing what kind of people report on successfully getting it.

Everyone has a high paying job, millions in their bank accounts or at least a pension.

Meanwhile here I am, no official job, suspicious cash flow, measly $5k on a CEX that I've yet to cash out.

They say money can't buy happiness, but at least it can make you look good for a visa, and that's something 😑

Regen hack #5 - recycling 101 ♻️

So, you found a way to store your food scraps. What next?

1. Reuse
- collect some of the scraps like onion and carrot skins, herb stems, freeze them up and use them in broths (1)
- save eggshells and coffee grounds for fertilizer (2)

2. Recycle
- if you have a garden, create a compost pit/pile or get a compost bin
- if you live in an apartment, you can get worms as pets for composting 😉 (3)
- if you live in a large city, install a garbage disposal in your sink. The scraps would turn into the activated sludge with the rest of the organic waste in the sewage system
- find a local composting service that collects food scraps

Personally I do the freeze for broth thing, have a compost pile at the country house and a disposal unit in the apartment 💚

Let me know if I missed anything!

Regen hack #4 - recycling 101 ♻️

If you want to get into recycling but it's overwhelming, start with one simple action:

Find a small tabletop bin for organic waste.

This can be a jar, a container, just a plastic bag or a proper compost bin. Whatever is the most convenient and pleasant to use for you.

Start collecting all the food scraps in it, and when it gets full throw them out separately from your regular waste.

Why do this?

- creates a habit of waste sorting
- your general waste will not be stinky and wet anymore, so you'll have to take it out less frequently
- gives motivation to look into composting options without pressure

I'll share the options in another cast, in the meantime looking forward to hearing what's your go to with organic waste if you're separating it already 😊
