An uncle's tale - lucianaguerraok | Exchange Art

I have studied the works of Bosch and Bruegel, fascinated by their chaotic, surreal depictions of bizarre universes where deformed creatures suffer and cities burn. Their paintings reflect the religious beliefs of their time—visions of Hell, Heaven, and divine punishment. These artworks, however, also capture the effects of ergotism, a mass poisoning caused by contaminated rye, which induced hallucinations, mental derangement, and gangrene.An uncle's tale recreates the hallucinations and suffering caused by ergotism. Through abstract and hallucinogenic compositions, I reimagine Bosch's art using digital techniques—without AI—to create new forms and symbols. This process transforms the visual and conceptual experience, with technology replacing traditional materials like oil paint.As a female artist, I appropriate the works of past masters, infusing them with my own identity and inviting to reflect onsociety, spirituality, and the human condition in contemporary times.
