it's only acts of willpower on the margin that feel uncomfortable. You're already living an extraordinarily restrained and controlled life from the perspective of someone who struggles with what you find normal. For a period you found brushing your teeth a tremendous nuisance, and then it went to the way of habit and even enjoyment. All behaviours can go the way of teeth-brushing.

I was born and raised on a farm near a tiny country town. Something that I've noticed as an adult when I visit is that if someone is talking about someone they know who has made some money, regardless of how they've made it (it's usually farming or inheritance), they whisper and lower their head as if at a funeral. The sense is that to have made money a person MUST have done something at least a little bit evil.
there is a kernel of what is to come within yourself. As a child I felt like I had cast god aside all on my own, only to discover that as an adult almost no one believes in god in Australia. At age 25 I thought I became a runner entirely independent of others, only to find 5 years later that everyone is a runner. Before it became revolting and deluded, I felt the woke impulse within myself. If I observe the buds of emotion within me my prediction is that a mass mania is imminent wrt AI, it will peak at roughly 2030. Study the Luddites. Study how to relate to a God.
the phenomena of stated vs revealed preferences is a consequence of the ideas in split-brain theory. The reason that it seems so hard to unify the mind is that the brain is not unified, not homogenous, not monolithic. Split-brain theory really deserves a more prominent spot as a fundamental lens on how to interpret the world.
if Arbitrum and OP-stack L2's are both slightly modified versions of Geth, does this equate to poor client diversity for L2's? If there is a bug in Geth do we lose many of the L2's as well as the layer 1 Geth nodes?
With the right large algorithm the entire works of Shakespeare can be extracted from any random data.
With the right small algorithm, e.g. understanding English, the entire works of Shakespeare can be extracted from the entire works of Shakespeare.
In each case the entropy of the system is the same. Either you need an algorithm that can extract the works of Shakespeare from randomness, in which case the algorithm will have entropy equal to the works of Shakespeare itself, or the algorithm will be small (understand English) and the data will be patterned (Shakespeare).
So
entropy(massive_algorithm(randomness)) = entropy(understand_english(works_of_shakespeare))
This is why the factoid that the entire works of Shakespeare can be found within the digits of pi is not as awesome as it initially seems. This is true for literally any data set in the universe, given the right algorithm.
Either the information is in the data set and the algorithm is small, or the information is stored in the algorithm.

to me that felt like the easiest political bet I've been exposed to @polymarket, it was also my first time betting on politics. Time to get overconfident and lose it all!
simply insane. what a time to be alive
Magma’s are the Eevee of algebraic structures.
A magma consists of a set equipped with a single binary operation that must be closed by definition. No other properties are imposed.
It’s common to find these various algebraic Pokémon in your travels. I like to think of them as evolved Magma’s. If you give your magma an associativity stone it will turn into a semi-group, if you give it the identity stone too it will become a monoid!

Why does Warpcast make me feel like shit? I considering deleting it.
It gives me so many good things, I learn a lot, but the fact is it makes me feel like shit. Can someone explain this to me. I don’t want to throw the baby out with the bath water.

I have found that swiping on socials or flicking through short-videos cuts down the effect of a trip dramatically, up to the point that I can forget im tripping.
I have a theory that this dampening is happening also when one is not on psychedelics, and it accounts for the sickly feeling one gets from rapid content switching.
Has anyone read any research on this phenomenon?

Entropy always increases ≈ the universe is non-commutative
?

In math, pondering “what is the implication of this”, even for the simplest of statements, is the closest I’ve felt to asking the universe “who are you?”.
I’ve just returned from my first 10-day silent meditation retreat, and it absolutely blew my mind to experience sensations that would normally require 2 grams of dried mushrooms. All from observing the breath!
Trig identities are beautiful once you learn to derive them.
cos(a - b) = cos(a)cos(b) + sin(a)sin(b)
cos(a + b) = cos(a)cos(b) - sin(a)sin(b)
sin(a + b) = sin(a)cos(b) + cos(a)sin(b)
sin(a - b) = sin(a)cos(b) - cos(a)sin(b)
It is more helpful to copy out the derivations than to copy out the identities themselves.

cos(a + b) = cos(a)cos(b) - sin(a)sin(b)
sin(a + b) = sin(a)cos(b) + cos(a)sin(b)
sin(a - b) = sin(a)cos(b) - cos(a)sin(b)

A line that is perpendicular to a circles’ tangent line passes through its center. From Oliver Byrne’s 1847 “Elements of Euclid”.
Are there any special properties of a finite field if it is of a prime order that is also a twin prime (p = 13, p-2 =11), compared to a prime order that is not a twin prime (p = 17, p - 2 = 15) ?
Which is to say, does F(13) have different generalisable properties to F(17)?

It’s a beautiful afternoon in Canberra for lsd 🌅

Acting nonchalant with one’s wealth was not created in crypto, wealthy people have always traded money for reputation and friends.
I’m unclear what’s magical about it.

Something crypto has normalized that still blows my mind: people gifting each other assets worth (tens of) thousands of dollars.
It’s not uncommon for internet friends to send each other NFTs “just because” that have standing offers of 5 ETH.
This is pure magic.

The Kyle Davies episode on Unchained is a perfect example of the types of personalities to avoid.
Maybe before the crossover the feeling is that we have learnt most of what there is to learn about the game, and that the World Champ is approaching the asymptote of theoretically perfect play. After the crossover this vanishes, we see our mountain is a local maximum, curiosity is reborn.
Probably Queens Gambit tho.
