Narrative violations, counter-intuitive ideas, and a little bit of bat-shit crazy thoughts. Feel free to post your stuff.

I’d unironically use this app more if I could get rid of the purple detailing everywhere
the phenomena of stated vs revealed preferences is a consequence of the ideas in split-brain theory. The reason that it seems so hard to unify the mind is that the brain is not unified, not homogenous, not monolithic. Split-brain theory really deserves a more prominent spot as a fundamental lens on how to interpret the world.
Some beef cuts should be cooked well-done, like spinalis dorsi/ribeye cap, outside skirt, flank, tritip (texture when welldone is so good).
You really get the maximum meaty flavor.
I love meaty flavor.
I don’t really like the idea of “streaks”. If I use an app or have to use something’s, it’ll be because I love to and never because I’m trying to keep up.

In many ways, streaks take away the actual joy of doing the thing
Making a case against travelling these days seems pretty contrarian to me. It resonates though.

Often tourists do not get in touch with the real culture of a place, simply because the people they engage with are working (work culture) and the others they are more of a specator to.

Many people criticize Goldman Sachs' work culture, and I think it's hard to understand it unless you look at it through the lens of a corporate version of a Navy Seals bootcamp.

Sometimes, it's not about being productive. It's about getting rid of people who won't do everything to stay there.

In most sectors of culture, addiction is seen as a negative. A disease, even.

But in tech, making your product addicting is the goal.

Driven by ad revenue, maximizing screen time has become the de-facto success metric for app development.

Someday, making apps that needlessly hoard your attention will become a faux pas, or even downright criminal. Just like everywhere else in life, society continually works to punish addictive behaviors, as they are inherently anti-social.

Tech will be no different, once the economic incentive is challenged (user data sovereignty).
korean variety shows overlapping with kpop industry, popularizing ramyeon as a normal staple korean diet is pretty fucked up, it's instant noodle, ultra processed food, it's not noodle, it's not a dish, stop it.
200 years ago, slavery was considered "normal".
150 years ago, women not having voting rights was considered "normal".
100 years ago, child labor was considered "normal".

What is accepted as "normal" today that might be seen as crazy by people born in 2075?
contrarian take:

bots problem has been almost solved by the Merkle team. i used to see many low-quality replies but now I barely see them.

It's hard to understand luxury brands until you notice that people buy them to elevate their social status.

For some people wearing an Armani suit is not that far from wearing a Superman costume - they feel empowered by the powerful brand they wear.

I don't like arc browser at all. The user experience which they boast is "better" is very unintuitive and breaks one of the core heuristics of UX design "sticking to the general market design".

Decided to try it out as chrome almost fried me. Back to `brave` land now
Most people seem to think it's bad (incl. me) but would be interested in a contrarian take from someone who thinks it's good

I need a Dan-Schelling point for Barcelona after Ethcc

Google is often being criticized. But I think they don't get enough credit for providing so many essential services such as search, video, email, word editor, storage, maps, etc. for free

Yes, they use your data to sell ads, but most people wouldn't be able to afford these services if they had to pay for them
Sometimes I think I understand how social media works and then I see stuff like 'Hawk tuah' overtaking the feed.

I don't get why it got so popular. It's not even that funny 🤔
Wondering how differently we would think if we could live 500 yrs

democracy is a failed and fallacious concept (or maybe this isn't as contrarian as I think it is)
what if there's no impostor syndrome and people just have no idea what they're doing?
Why do I feel like it could be used for discriminating people lol

You are not worthy of X because you’re more predisposed to alcoholism.

Maybe the track of record of science is not super good in recent year!

It means that we can potentially address issues in advance, it’s super cool!

They need to hear what you have to say
Contrarianism is acc easier than most people think: you just need to say "no" when everyone else is saying "yes". A person can disagree with others for more than conviction or principles--we have dumb contrarian opinions for a reason.

Moreover, the incentives are twisted: there's a hidden bias that makes us automatically believe a contrarian take must be true because it's different from everything else we hear. Flat earthers and conspiracy theorists would get less attention and credibility if this bias was absent.

But reverse stupidity isn't intelligence (https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/qNZM3EGoE5ZeMdCRt/reversed-stupidity-is-not-intelligence) .If everyone says meat is good and you say "meat is bad", your hypothesis might be incorrect. Eeryone could be right on the issue, while you're wrong.

If anything, knowing this will help reduce the number of bad contrarian takes that we see in the world today imo. Your "unpopular opinion" may be unpopular because people have enough sense to know it's wrong. :)
What's the most annoying crypto 'truth' you disagree with?

I will start: 'Crypto's biggest problem is bad UX'.
I‘m actually just a frames a
hater bc everyone here is a frames lover. I‘m 100% neutral towards the frames spec. In fact, the spec is actually neat. But I completely hate how everybody is/has been over-the-top positive about the feature in WC
We should study Compton more.

How on Earth this relatively poor 100k inhabitans LA city gave us:
- Kevin Costner,
- Novoselic (Nirvana bassist),
- 11 NBA players,
- 20 NFL players,
- Serena & Venus Williams,
- Dr. Dre, Coolio, Eazy-E, The Game, Kendrick Lamar, YG & like 20+ other rappers?
The driving force behind the development of solar energy in China mainly comes from the nation's energy conservation and emission reduction strategies, as well as the support for high-tech industries.

The Paris Agreement, passed in 2016, further propelled this process. So why was the Paris Agreement established?

Firstly, developed countries have imposed technology blockades on developing countries, and industrial development requires carbon emissions.

Secondly, it's because we indeed need to reduce carbon emissions to protect the Earth (although this might be a false proposition). Subsequently, through the integration of industrial chains, China greatly reduced the cost of solar panels.

With abundant mineral resources, cheap labor, rapidly iterating technology, and convenient transportation, the cost of solar panels can be significantly lowered in China. We are not playing the game Civilization 6;

there are no barbarians to share aircraft carrier technology with us, lol

This is foreign prejudice, this is deep-seated arrogance. Their understanding of a country comes from the BBC and the New York Times, and they refuse to believe the words of foreigners who have been to China.

Recently, China has implemented a 144-hour visa-free policy, attracting a large number of foreign tourists. Some of them visited Xinjiang. Oh, you might say, they were paid by the CPP.

This is laughable, as people are always willing to believe what they can see. This is 2024, not 1924. The serfdom policy ended after the liberation of Tibet.

If you're referring to prisoners needing to undergo prison reform, then you should really look into the matter of private prisons.
