Do you know what a Broken shadow is?
Here is a nice video from one of our pilots in a SF-28.

It feels like flying in formation 😎
The shadow, or Broken specter, is a rare phenomenon on the ground but quite common in flight.
On the ground, it generally requires being on top of a mountain (hence the name, from Mount Broken in Germany, where the phenomenon was first identified) and being directly aligned between the sun and a cloud. This means being at least as high as the clouds, but ideally slightly above them, which is easier to achieve in an aircraft.
The halo is caused by the refraction of light in the cloud's droplets, a phenomenon similar to rainbows. Its diameter is smaller than that of a rainbow because the droplets are finer (without going into too much detail, the difference is that in the Broken halo, the wave-like behavior of light comes into play, whereas rainbows are based on simple optics).

Sailplane season is over for us in west of France.
But we can still train with simulator as the new version of Condor is out.
Have you tried it with VR?

I missed the test flight, I was in the building in front of it but did not know it happened. Anyone having any first hand video from the demo?

I'm shocked to discover that Philomena Cunk (Cunk on hearth - episode 4) was right saying we don't know how planes fly. I've been taught the pressure differencial explanation so far.

2024 was the worst year for flying sailplanes (COVID aside) due to bad weather in north west France.
June looked like November, September looks like November, I won't bet on October and November will probably look like itself... Can't wait for our SF-28 engine magneto to be fixed and fly over to the snowy landscapes.

We spent the day promoting sailplane flying at our local associations fair.
The VR simulation (Condor2) is a good way to hook people.
We also had a contest to win a maiden flight and I edited 30min video loop to display actual in flight views.
It's a lot of effort, but it was worth it to share our love for flying.

They just forgot the best one: Flying
During day 10 of World Gliding Championship in Uvalde, Texas , USA in August, only one sailplane finished the task. 14 landed in the wild. One landed in a lake and almost burned because of batteries and is probably definitely out of order... but bad weather was predictable. Was it a mistake not to call the day off?
How were the best pilots able to avoid some of the issues?

We need longer runways...
What a great championship!
Congratulations to all the participants, and of course to the winners of the 3 classes!
Can't wait for the next one!

Who's in Uvalde, TX, USA for the world sailplane championship?
How's the weather?
Also this nice 1991 video on their site 🤩

I love this AR app to spot sailplanes!
Waiting for my turn to be towed...
And of course you can pay with crypto! It's currently around 0.7 $BTC (price converted from EUR so may be different when you contact me)

Found a picture of me when I was 6 in my parents photo book!
Now I'm an adult and I fly this same plane! (It has been repainted since and very well maintained, including by myself, but still I would have loved to keep it orange).

KA-52 is the first & only helicopter with ejection seats (yes, rotors are jettisoned first)
Thought of the day: really never consider that some money spent on good absorbing and odour canceling vomit bags is wasted money. When you will fly passengers who will need it, you will thank your wise past self. Trust me.
Terrifying graveyard spiral - I don't think I've ever seen a passenger plane do that (althought it was not a jet)
Looking for shade and fresh air far from the ground

For those wondering how sailplanes take off. There's a trick, I can see the cable!
