How close to half an empty bottle of wine can you still pretend you only had 'one' glass?
found this in my suitcase, gift from the mother-in-law (pretty sure she grabbed more for the name than taste) 🍷
Going to work my way through all of these Spanish producers this/next year - they are all single estates that focus on very specific terroirs https://grandespagos.com/pagos-y-bodegas/
Though I rarely ever drink white, this one caught my eye https://www.decantalo.com/us/en/belondrade--lurton.html
The Ribera region is one of my favorites, so also very excited to try the Aalto 2021 https://vinonueva.com/products/aalto-ribera-del-duero-2021
Has anyone tried these or other Grandes Pagos wines?

Aalto - Ribera del Duero Tinto 2021
Mariano Garcia founded Bodegas Aalto in 1999, after 30 years as technical director and world–renown winemaker for Vega Sicilia. From the beginning he has been guided by three principals: old-vine or massale selection Tinto Fino, a wide range of terroirs spread over nine villages in the province of Burgos, and his vast

Tried this gem a few days ago. 💎
It was very light andsubtle cider taste. 🍎
Would really recommend with an aged cheese. 🧀

Okay, I’m serious about this. Who’s in town for ETH Denver and wants to do a wine night?
We could rent out Noble Riot (wine bar, great selection) or I’d be down to host and byob 👀

At dinner last night, the sommelier swapped out our dessert wine pairing with a glass of ‘89 Chateau d’Yquem.
First time trying d’Yquem and I can understand why it’s called nectar of the Gods

Whiskies tasting at my wine shop. 5 bottles, French, Irish, Japanese and two Scotch. Blends and single cask. Peated or not. All very good and interesting. Very intense aroma and very long in mouth. My fav was the Irish triple distilled and the Irish peated one.
Opened a few banger wines over Christmas.
The standout wine was the ‘94 Monte Bello. It was the oldest Ridge I’ve ever had, and it was exceptional

Miratus, Yanık Ülke, Petit Verdo + Cabarnet Franc + Boğazkere + Shiraz, Manisa (Magnesia)-Kula (Aegean region)—Strabon used to define the specific region here Katekekaumene (the burnt country).

Urla, Ukuf Region, Boğazkere (variety), 2020
Urla is a modern county in İzmir (Smyrna)—what was once Klazomenai. It's a gastronomical destination nowadays.
You can observe the bottles of Troas raw pine honey (a bit pricey) and Mia Mesa tahini behind the glass—utterly fresh.

Almost finished the bottle last night, it was too smooth. I feel rather well rested without any hangover.

Cracked a Kirkland Signature Barolo this NYE (don't judge me) and it wasn't bad! Definitely not one to be aged; light body, not a lot of nose. But for $20 it's a steal.

Italian Christmas Sparkling White wine - I'd drink it again for Christmas on july 😁
Real try at feedback: Perfectly balancing both carbonation and sweetness it perfectly complimented the ham dinner 🍽️

Ok now we're talking. People who hate on Caymus are probably drinking it much too young. This one has aged beautifully.
This one (Groth 2009 reserve Oakville cab) was a little disappointing. Still a bit tannic and dark, but not a lot of body so doubt more time would have helped.
Idea: We rent a venue and do a natty wine meetup during ETH Denver
Porto wine tasting session tomorrow is canceled because too many participants are sick from flu or COVID 😭
Guys, Use masks and wash hands! What are your priorities? Mine was this Porto wine tasting evening...

Random takeaways on Argentinan wine after spending a week winetasting in Mendoza:
- exceptional value. Had a glass of $2 wine that blew me away
- they rarely age wines? Everyone I talked to much preferred younger vintages
- it's more cost effective to buy a bottle at a restaurant than 2 glasses of wine (?)
- high-elevation chardonnays taste more like chablis
- Catena Zapata is fantastic
I primarily drink new world wines, but after this trip I'll definitely be adding some bottles of Mendoza malbec to my repertoire.

Finally made it to my families house in Florida - this is by far my favorite room in the house- the Tuscany Cigar Wine Room. 10/10. Blessed Hurricane Milton/Helene didn't disrupt this work of art. Going to do a little early wine tasting. Wine tasting reviews to come (from a non sommelier

What are some of your favorite wineries in Argentina?
I already have tastings at Zuccardi and Catena Zapata reserved.

Réserve Spéciale Muscat Sec 2021
From Languedoc-Roussillon, one of the oldest wine regions in France and the world. It dates back to the 5th century BC, when the Greeks began to produce wine in this region. In 45 BC, after the Gallic Wars, Julius Caesar distributed the lands of Languedoc to his generals as a reward for their services. The Romans had a great influence on wine production in the region and the wines were exported throughout Europe.
For a long time, Languedoc was known for its extremely cheap wines. In recent decades, however, high-quality wines have been produced again.
