Iβve been researching depths of field in calligraphic strokes. Playing with the passage of low relief and palimpsest as metaphor for the dynamic energies of the visible & invisible.
This experimental work will start to emerge slowly, throughout the final stages of my PhD.

There is a natural rhythm to the calligraphic strokes of traditional Chinese painting. They are indigenous to China, founded in intimate observation of the natural world.
This cadence is visible in both this 17th century landscape by Zheng Chong (detail) and my contemporary work. Each speak of mountains & waterfalls.
