The European Commission has kicked off its project to develop the first-ever General-Purpose AI Code of Practice, and it’s tied closely to the recently passed EU AI Act.

The Code is aimed at setting some clear ground rules for AI models like ChatGPT and Google Gemini, especially when it comes to things like transparency, copyright, and managing the risks these powerful systems pose.

At a recent online plenary, nearly 1,000 experts from academia, industry, and civil society gathered to help shape what this Code will look like.

The process is being led by a group of 13 international experts, including Yoshua Bengio, one of the β€˜godfathers’ of AI, who’s taking charge of the group focusing on technical risks. Bengio won the Turing Award, which is effectively the Nobel Prize for computing, so his opinions carry deserved weight.

The Council of Europe’s Framework Convention on AI was agreed on Thursday in Vilnius, Lithuania, marking a major step in aligning AI development with human rights, democracy, and the rule of law.

The United States, European Union, United Kingdom, and Israel were among the initial signatories.

Other signatories included Andorra, Georgia, Iceland, Norway, the Republic of Moldova, and San Marino. More countries are expected to join over the coming weeks and months.

Developed over two years with input from more than 50 countries, it aims to create a unified global, legally binding framework for AI governance.
Though lower crude oil prices are often a welcome development for consumers as they front run lower gasoline prices for drivers, they can be a bad omen for the broader economy as it indicates prospects of a broader slowdown as companies, consumers and governments tighten their belts. Brent crude prices fell 62% in 2008, during the global financial crisis, and 24% in 2020, amid the dredges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Americans are already paying less at the pump than they did in the recent past, with Tuesday’s average gas prices of $3.33 per gallon down from $3.48 a month ago and $3.82 a year ago, according to AAA, helping push inflation down.
It's been an interesting journey for DEGEN. Like a superhero origin story, it all started with something small and seemingly insignificant, only to evolve into something much larger than anyone could have predicted.

From Meme Coin to Community Token
Do you know?

The DEGEN chain itself is built as an Arbitrum Orbit chain that settles on Base and uses AnyTrust for data availability, aiming to have DEGEN as its native gas token. In simple terms, it's a bit like using frequent flyer miles as currency at the airport.

Grok’s image generator has seized the headlines, stirring immense criticism that it opens the doors to inappropriate, explicit, and manipulative forms of AI use.

When Musk founded xAI in 2023, he said the goal was to β€œunderstand the universe.”

That lofty goal has somewhat crashed down to Earth, though Grok, xAI’s first and only product, is still sending shockwaves through the AI community and wider society.

OpenAI has released the system card for its advanced GPT-4o model and explained the novel risks its audio capabilities present.

It’s been a few months since the impressive demos of GPT-4o’s voice assistant interacting with almost real-time dialogue. OpenAI said it would require extensive testing before the voice capability could be safely deployed and has recently only allowed a few alpha testers access to the feature.

The newly released system card gives us an insight into some of the weird ways the voice assistant behaved during testing and what OpenAI has put in place to make it behave.
