i think I'm more concerned with the dopamine hijacking than the gambling.
gambling itself hijacks dopamine ofc, but flashing lights and fomo and status games make me grind my teeth with rage.
i am not interested in consumerism or tokens or free money.
i am interested in doing what I want with my life and having fun with my friends.
everything in the world wants to masquerade as those things — and they are incentivized to make me believe it's real and true.
it's not.
it's bullshit and dark patterns and psychological warfare — and i would just as soon torch my entire online life than allow space in my brain for a fucking spinning wheel I have to tap five times a day just for 7¢ worth of ad space trying to sell me another attack on my attention.
bc none of this shit has real value.
if it did, it wouldn't need to rely on dark patterns.
maybe someone'll say that's naive but ill still say fuck off: build something useful.

Fallacies in building decentralized social protocols / platforms in crypto:
1. It has to be financialized.
2. Everything should be onchain.
3. The protocol should avoid having an official client.
4. Verifying a user as human makes them interesting and valuable.
5. It must work with all existing standards and other protocols.
6. Funding developers proactively and directly is the key to growth.
7. Most users care about how decentralized it is, whether it's open source and generally esoteric hypotheticals about the future.
What most users care about: is it interesting to use right now?
What most developers care about: 1) are there valuable users and 2) can I build something that gets access to said users, i.e. decent enough APIs

We're planning to move forward with rebranding the Warpcast mobile and web app to Farcaster.
1. Nothing is changing any time soon. We will take our time with this and have plenty of communication about it across multiple channels. The earliest the change will happen is mid-May, but a decent chance it happens in June.
2. We're going to work on a plan over the next 2 weeks and should have a plan by the next developer call on May 8, 2025. We will discuss on the call.
3. For developers: we're planning to open source the client monorepo— i.e. the mobile and web apps. Again, no timeline on this yet.

My mom had a BASIC textbook when she was studying accounting. It was the first textbook I ever read. I started programming with BASIC in 5th grade.
I quickly started using Visual Basic, then Pascal and Delphi in high school, and Java and C in university. But it all started with BASIC.

Last box! This one is from Osaka, my home in Japan.
I spent about 6 weeks in the area, volunteering at a mikan farm in Wakayama and then exploring the mean streets near Tengachaya station. The warmth and craft of the Osaka people stuck with me - I still host my Osaka friends in Toronto when they are in town!

Just got out of a bare-knuckle tradCorp meet where my org innovation plan was raked through the coals by many entrenched players a couple notches above me on the ladder.
After the meet my boss’s boss’s boss’s boss said, “Hey that was kind of rough but was it valuable?”
“Feedback is a gift! Thank you for setting up the meet where I could get it,” was my reply.
The grin he got after I said that was pretty hilarious. He told me it turned his mood around entirely.

What an unusual presentation for chocolate mousse, I noted inwardly
Every morning, before anyone else wakes up, I fill this box. Sometimes it comes home empty, and sometimes there are leftovers. I keep track and adjust. For instance, I know she’ll eat 4 (but not 5) cherry tomatoes.
