Degen culture has been an unmitigated disaster.
Speaking past each other is Crypto’s primary use case.
Did you lose sight of your cypherpunk values anon?
The non-goals are almost as important here. Essentially a rejection of the internal push to destroy Crypto values: centralisation, corporatisaton and populist Americanism.

We are indeed currently in the process of large changes to EF leadership structure, which has been ongoing for close to a year. Some of this has already been executed on and made public, and some is still in progress.

What we're trying to achieve is primarily the following goals:

* Improve level of technical expertise within EF leadership
* Improve two-way communications and ties between EF leadership and the ecosystem actors, old and new, that it is our role to support: users (individual and institutional), app devs, wallets, L2s
* Bring in fresh talent, improve execution ability and speed
* Become more actively supportive of app builders, and make sure important values and inalienable rights (esp privacy, open source, censorship resistance) are a reality for users including at the app layer
* Continue to increase our use of decentralized and privacy tech and the Ethereum chain, including for payments and treasury management

the Siqi story is so dumb. he could actually have launched a followup memecoin w/ a mission building a mira type mission. sort of a first stab at Vitalik's charity memecoin genre. instead it's garbage in, garbage out once again in "the trenches"
/Ethereum
our new Maximalists have completely take the wrong lesson from the success of Bitcoin Maximalism. they are looking to its older hostile era as effective when in fact its effective era is its current one, which is muted and disinterested in other ecosystems.

Just watched 'The Wrong Man' (1956), a surprisingly grounded and serious turn from Hitchcock. His only movie based on real life. Especially impressive is Vera Miles as idealised housewife who is slowly turned insane by the events of the movie.

i see ppl are not going to be on CT on election day because it'll be bad. i disagree, i think it's top tier brainrot, unrivalled even. unmissable nonsense.
i actually think you could trace many ETH problems back to EIP-1559:
- made the distinction *from* Bitcoin fuzzy
- ironicallyrevealed ETH's monetary policy is changeable
- start of narrative-hopping
- large contributor to Maxi folly, which over time looks like arrogance
/Ethereum
We should steal Extensions from Solana and rename L2s Ethereum Extensions. It better captures the idea that L2s are part of Ethereum, that L2s extend *from* Ethereum and extend *it.* That you never leave the Ethereum Ecosystem.

polarchain l3 is rebranding back to polarchain l2. while this rebrand cost 50m approx we feel our users prefer the original name.
Polarchain was ahead of its time 😁

some quick thots on ethereum alignment as a term:
- the term itself needs to be more legible, to clarify if its the same, different or adds to the social layer.
- the term rubs many the wrong way implying cultural centralisation and i often wonder if cypherpunk (MECA) is the better choice. it is easier for people to align with cypherpunk values broadly than what they may perceive to be Ethereum top brass (fantasised or not)
- i would promote EA (or similar) in terms of the security of the protocol from social, cultural or political attacks. in an era where protocol security is robust, the social becomes the soft belly
- legibility can lend legitimacy, but can lead to Goodhart's law, so we have to be careful (academia is a warning sign here)
/Ethereum
ok let me put it the other way. some cypherpunks are a bit degen, i accept. but, more importantly, most degens are not cypherpunks. the latter is more consequential.

It is nice to see a muscular response from people regarding Ethereum's technical identity as (rollup-centric) Roadmap and the implied Endgame. However, it does elide a little how Ethereum's social identity is and always has been somewhat ambiguous, which has not affected its position, which speaks for itself in marketcap and influence. But I do believe there is some truth to the 'identity crisis' there. Nobody can quite agree on a North Star for Ethereum, there is no Social Road Map and people fear even embedding one because they feel it would essentially be cultural centralisation. But I am somewhat concerned about it, about the question mark over what Ethereum is supposed to be, socially. Because on one hand it means we have multiple spinning narratives, none of which has widespread traction, which invites internal conflict and there be dragons (know your blockchain history). On the other, nature abhors a vacuum and if we don't fill it, someone else might, finding ourselves on the edge of our own territory.

am i crazy or is this whole l1 / l2 debate a completely algorithmically-enabled non-debate?

quick q: what do folks look for when hiring crypto people for their protocols, orgs, etc.? and where do they look? i'm doing a panel on it and want to drop some useful insights rather than waffle
How would you define Ethereum's Social Layer?

Trumps pro-crypto policy is A+

Him selling NFTs is whatever - people can buy silly collectibles if they want.

But i hope to God this worldliberty thing doesn’t turn into a massive Machinsky style grift - we don’t need this.

Why can’t we have nice things.
my belief is the current malaise is a product of living in a degen dominant culture. this is what it feels like to place financial nihilism front and centre. it's suspicious, catty and kind of stagnant.

have not posted on X in a few days and hoping to slowly wean myself off it except for updates.
In Ethereum, the Foundation spends 100m a year on fancy hair cuts for the Core Devs, nobody can afford full nodes because the Foundation cut off the electricity and its dictator Vitalik kicks puppies.

the EF will of course be part of my (EF-funded!) social layer research. the tldr from that perspective is careful what you wish for, because in the near term the EF is what gets us (imperfect) independence *from* corporate influence, at the expense of dependence on the EF which in the long term should be planning more clearly its process of subtraction. likely tied to roadmap endgame. however, this means we as a community have to think hard about how *we* will perform those functions in their absence.

WORDS

Words are powerful
They have more weight than some may think

They can hurt your feelings
They can cut your soul
They can feel like a kick in your stomach
And they can totally destroy your self-confidence

Words can bring you up
And with the same force
They can smack you down

They can hit like stones
They can burn like fire
And make you sink
Sink so deep
That you can’t come out

They are empowered by meaning and feeling
So they are never just words
They are always way more than that…

We hide behind them
We mislead by them
And often we spend a lot of time to forget them

Words that have been told
Can’t go back where they belong
You may bite your tongue
But you can’t take back the words you told while you were drunk

Words are powerful
They have more weight than some may think

They form stories which may make you cry
They bring a comfort that feels like a hug

Words are powerful…!
