With the recent market volatility, I figured it would be interesting to look at BTC ETF flows. As surprising as it may be, there was still 14k BTC of total inflows over the past week! Although, inflows are in a down trend since the election.

Yesterday during the price volatility I checked out gas prices on Arbitrum and Base because after trying to do a transaction on Arb1 I saw the fee was $30! However on Base it was still under $1. Not sure if this has to do with blobs or not but here is a dashboard tracking Ethereum blob metrics.

There is a lot of speculation going around that OpenSea will soon launch their token. This comes from news of OpenSea setting up a Foundation in the Caymens, which has spurred renewed interest in NFTs on the platform. On the week of 12/9 OpenSea did ~$72m in volume across all supported chains with Ethereum leading the way by a long shot (~68m) and Base and Arbitrum in second and third (~2, ~1m respectively). Will this bring back NFTs for good? Time will tell.

Stablecoin metrics have been trending upward at an increased rate over the past year. After topping out in early 2022 around $173b, stablecoin supply is now over $200b with little to no signs of slowing down. Daily transaction volume is over $90b per day and monthly active wallets just hit a new all time high of 33m. With new market particpants this cycle like Ethena and incumbents like Tether and Circle, any blockchain user looking for a source of stable value has plenty of options to pick from.

Velodrome is a central trading and liquidity marketplace on Optimism. With a total value locked of ~$125m and cumulative volume of ~$20b, the protocol has thus far collected almost $20m in swap fees! Currently in epoch 133, Velo V2 is dominating from a TVL perspective but V2 Slipstream is approaching at a steady pace. What is interesting however, is that volume is mostly happening on V2 Slipstream even though the majority of TVL isn't solely there. My guess is Slipstream sources TVL from V2 as well but let me know if I'm wrong!

Ever wonder about DeFi fees on all the different blockchains out there? If so, this is a great resource to reference. It breaks it down by chain with several different timeframe options. As you can see Ethereum leads the way on daily, weekly, and monthly fees with Solana close behind. BSC, Base, Tron, and Arbitrum all tied close for the 3rd spot. Base and Solana are growing the fastest on 30d timeframe.

If you've been in the space long enough you'll remember when there was a huge debate on Twitter about being able to verify the ETH supply. I'm not going to get into the nitty gritty of those arguments but here is a dashboard with a particular methodology to figuring out ETH supply. There are some really cool breakdowns in here such as how much is staked, in L2s, held by the EF, in WETH contract, etc...

Like most people, I'd heard of Bitcoin Inscriptions before but didn't know that people were also making them on Ethereum. From the dashboard by Six Degree, you can see that the ERC-20 standard is used for the grand majority of them but ORC-20 (which may not be an official standard on Ethereum) has a few. Compared to other chains, "ethinscriptions" aren't very popular, the most minted is "1111" at 159 times.

Today's dashboard comes from the ETHismoney website. It looks at the largest Ethereum economies (layer 2 networks) and how much ETH is exported there. I like to view this in the lens of "smart contract sinks", similar to the staking contract, ETH goes into these contracts to be useful in different ways and as long as there are useful opportunities ETH will go there and create new economies.

As Metamask is one of the household names for crypto wallets, a possible metric to watch whether the demand for tokens is back is the volume going through Metamask Swaps (and other in-app swaps for Rainbow, Coinbase Wallet, Trust Wallet). This dashboard highlights metemask swaps for all available chains. Considering 82% of the volume shown is on Ethereum, this tool may not be used as much by retail as some may think, because in my opinion they are probably onboarded to L2s like Base and Arbitrum first.

Ever smoked a cig inside? If you answered "Of course, who hasn't?!" then well I've been introduced to a base meme token that's just for you. This dashboard tracks the holder cohorts of a new base meme token called Cigs Inside. Number of holders is increasing per day but there needs to be some kind of distribution method to get this into the hands of the greater base community. Any thoughts on how to do this improving on the airdrop model?

Are NFTs dead still? Well despite what you may see on social media, the numbers do indicate they are "relatively" dead compared to 2020-2024 metrics. Take a look at Magic Eden for example. ME is live on numerous chains including Solana, Ethereum, Polygon, and Bitcoin. Back in May unique buyers toped out at 343k with most of them from Solana and Bitcoin (ordinals mania). Now unique buyers sits around 45k per month. Volume is led by Bitcoin but Solana has unique buyers/sales on lock.

Not too long ago I referenced this dashboard by Hashed about Ethena's stablecoin USDe and sUSDe (staked version). I thought it would be interesting to revisit how much supply has been added and what percent is staked, on exchanges, and on layer 2s now the market has progressed further into a bull run. The protocol owned liquidity is used for a delta neutral hedge trade to support the price of USDe.
-$4.5b USDe
-75% staked

-3% on L2s

The other day I saw some drama about Coinbase not supporting the new upgrade of Celo's layer 2 blockchain. For a token that supposedly has decent trading volume and a fairly large community I find that interesting. As of today Celo does about 12 blocks per minute and has ~600k daily active users. Seems to me like a chain you'd want to support moving forward.

Lots of people have slept on Instadapp since DeFi hasn't been on center stage this cycle but their new Fluid DEX has seen quite a bit of volume since launch. Recently it was announced that some DAOs are considering buying INST (Aave DAO) for their treasury while the Instadapp team has integrated new token pairs for trading like Aave's GHO. Yesterday Fluid did ~$50m of trading volume which may sound like a lot but it has a ways to go until they are really competing with Uniswap's ~$2.4b - and that's just on Ethereum.
