doers get more done - share the projects you're working on [that don’t involve left clicking] rough or refined, anything goes. talk shop, give/get advice, cold beers in the fridge

just another hat to demolish in the garage.

that is all

🪵 update:

going to take a couple months to dry it seems. long game on this one. hope to have it done by end of q1
there’s no turning back now lads

slightly bigger than i intended [proportionally] but i fell in love with this one

might have to adjust some dimensions to make it look right. don’t want the ring to get too big overall
It’s all about the batteries 👷
new side quest:

hurricane ripped a ton of massive trees out the ground near my place

took this section & going to turn it into an ottoman/low-table after it dries
please be on HIGH ALERT for the next 24-48 hrs. safety glasses and closed toed shoes are REQUIRED from this point on
from about 5 years ago, wearing an even older ETH shirt

at my last place before having a real garage, built a 4x8 lean-to shed. here i am sitting on top after finishing some somewhat shoddy but successful birdsmouth cuts

more build pics in reply if you want? or more shirts?
opinions appreciated: lab vs natural diamond

modeled/printed to check proportions and more importantly size of diamond.
fuckin struggling with this

watched a bunch of yt videos of jewelers/dealers saying they’d buy lab if they were proposing. can see the value in both

aside, i love the side profile of this ring so much
two tiny things I’m proud of

1. Bought a 40 year old label maker for $1, fixed it, and found dope boxes to label & store stuff

2. Mounted some frames, which felt stressful but turned out good I think
Built this simple mount for charging and StandBy mode. Very enjoyable
Not exactly all back together yet, but it all works and I didn’t ruin my electrical system!

The LED running lights in the new lenses really modernize the look. Pumped that the little indicator light for the aux lights toggle switch worked out too! Was afraid I might have burned up the tiny resistor and diode crammed in there trying to solder them to 16 gauge copper wire. That takes way more heat than I’m used to!
ISO alternatives to this iconic Carhartt work jacket. I’m sure they’re great, but want to make sure I’m clear on all the options. I do a good bit of yard work in the winter and this needs to hold up to daily beatings. Reqs:
• Hood
• Warm
• Durable shell (can hold up to barbed wire, dog claws, etc)
• Flawless zipper

Open to other req suggestions, too.

+there is no token
+there is no fee
+cold beers in the fridge

No work today, so you know I’m wrenchin’

Question for The Garage:
I’m trying to swap out an illuminated 3 wire switch with a 2 wire metal toggle for an aux light kit. Ground (black wire) is the one that’s made unnecessary, right?

My thinking is that ground would be needed to make the light work but isn’t needed to break the circuit.

Anyone have car accessory wiring experience?
just got my first drill (DeWalt), any necessary safety things or important tips I should know ?

using it to assemble furniture and put up shelving at first, hoping to get into some light woodworking type stuff in future.
Crossed off a bunch of items on the truck repair list, this weekend.

1) Replaced a rubber back door lift button cover that had turned into the stickiest goo imaginable after 17 years.

2) Located and cleared some rear roof drains that were leaking water into the cabin.

3) Replaced some musty old subcarpet padding that was taking on water from said leak.

4) Fixed weather seal inside rear hatch that was smearing a different black goo on the rear window when it’s rolled down.

Feels good man. Didn’t lose any bolts either!
The satisfaction of a perfect first cut.
new toy. super lightweight, plenty powerful
Filing to learn. Learning to file.

Surprising how match can be done with scrap materials, a hacksaw, cordless drill, metal files, and a heap of patience/stubbornness.

It's a sad day, my work companion for more than 20 yes has finally decided to retire 😭. Absolute favourite digging shovel, it's going to take several years work to break another one in. I'm hoping to repurpose this as a barrow mixing shovel though 🤞
