Last September, last trip of the season, we packed this chair on our very last mule so Danny Boi had a cozy throne, and my hat and chaps for shelter. He frolicked in the snow the whole ride back to the pack station.
I keep a "mule bowl" in my kitchen for fruit, grain, and veggies scraps. We "compost" each morning and evening. I make extra pancakes just for them, and they are partial to leftover spaghetti noodles and watermelon rinds.

Anatomy of a load. 200-250lbs of gear and food, bear boxes to keep that food un-eaten by bears, ropes, tarps, elaborate and specific knots. A load can ride 25 miles on rough trail if packed properly. There was a full sweet potato pie, a $200 bottle of scotch, and 2 personal-sized watermelons in this load.
