For music makers and those wanting to learn.
Considering the fact that electronically produced music is ubiquitous and widely accepted, should human musicians continue striving for perfect metronomic tempo and tone consistency?
There are many pianists, classical guitarists, progressive metal bands, and Instagram guitarists that play with mechanical precision. I listen to some of it and enjoy it, but I’m always returning to the question of “Why are they working so hard when you can just make a computer do this?”
I used to want to play with precision and be impressively fast, but I find that I’m increasingly craving imperfect timing, high emotional expressiveness, and nuanced “finger tone” when listening to/making human-performed music. And when listening to/making electronic-based music I want it to go far in the opposite direction of psychotically impossible.

This is my rough little classical guitar improv piece for last month's challenge. I wrote the first phrase, then did an improv based on my structural sketch (and kept noises in the beginning to emphasize improv setting, lol).
'The Year Ahead'

A month later, I discovered what I actually use: tube screamer, kilt, or fuzz. For reverb, it’s Boss or Walrus. For modulation, it’s Canyon or Emperor. There will eventually be four. The pulp-n-peel stays on.

Hey everyone, are there any electric guitar players here? I'd love to check out your pedal boards!
To be clear, I typically only use a tuner, overdrive, and reverb, and I'm good to go. However, we're experimenting with different sounds and trying out a new pedal chain for an upcoming project with a friend.

Tuning my new Lyre, day one. I had to restart cuz I snapped two strings last attempt and got intimidated!
Super excited to share a little clip from my riyaaz this morning 🎼🎙️I haven’t done my riyaaz in a while so my voice sounds very raw but I was so happy to sing one of my most favorite raags called Miya Malhar. This is an introduction of the raag which is also called Aalap. The accompanying instrument is Tanpura (I find it very soothing) 💜

I play acoustic drums (hobbyist) and looking to record myself. Any recording/mic equipment folks recommend for someone that wants to get their feet wet?
i had a lot of fun jamming with @anansi on our respective ukuleles just now on zoom
now i want us to be able to have looping pads or something to ummmm fix my lack of rhythm and to layer more sounds
is there any easy to use software/website for this? how do musicians collab virtually?

I am realizing in this moment that I do not have as many finished songs as I thought. A song is not finished when it’s written, recorded, or even released. A song is only finished after a substantial effort has been made to bring it into the lives of others. I have never finished one song in my life.
Song #5 for @base @onchainsummer with @coinbasewallet has arrived!
Title: Dragon
Dragon is a dark, slinky groover, with Bully leading the vibe on his slide dobro! Another tune recorded on the Fleetwood Mac NEVE console, Dragon, has some great tones. I hope you enjoy the song and AI art.

My toxic trait is that in the time it takes me to record one song, I write ten more

"Station Called Love" is the title track of my upcoming EP release and a gritty little bar ditty so TURN IT UP!
Recorded on the same Neve console as Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors"! It was a delight to record at Tiny Telephone Oakland and other fine places and work with many talented audio professionals.
Enjoy train-like grooves cuz it's a FREE RECAST MINT first 50 sponsored by @manifoldxyz!!

Forget generative AI. Pianos are too advanced to make real music. They can generate a note just by tapping a button, using technology to completely take the soul out of creating a note. Vocals and maybe hand drums(but that's a stretch) are the only true ways of making music.
Your favorite songwriter is very unlikely to be a virtuoso. To truly master an instrument in a way that studio and other for-hire musicians must, it is necessary to not be too creative. Creativity gets in the way of acquiring as many skills as possible efficiently.
Some of my tastiest slide dobro guitar work right here folks. Ever hear a cuban tres? Recorded on the same NEVE console Fleetwood Mac's "Rumors" was recorded on. Mint some frisky tropical summer tones for Base Onchain Summer on @manifoldxyz . Free recast mint!

AI music hitting insane levels of quality
listen to a few tracks on udio.com 🤯
what’s clear is that in the future, artist success will become even more about presence and personality and story than it is today
hate it or love it, that’s how it’s gonna be

Casually recording vocals in unconventional settings is an easy way to capture the authenticity of anyone who feels they aren’t ready.
It allows the artist to “mess up” without penalty. Their frustrations turn into laughs. Creativity flows.

How long did it take you to make your first “good” song? Almost ten years for me.

This song is called Leeway. It’s the first song I ever wrote that I actually like, and it only took me ten years of writing mediocre songs to get there: https://drakula.app/post/790430f7-a646-41d1-8ae0-848043a07dc6?invite=cDqR6W

The legend and one-person band with a Casio keyboard, Wesley Willis.
Willis was diagnosed with schizophrenia in 1989 and died in 2003 of Leukemia.
He had a cult following, toured extensively, and has multiple albums.

Music education looks a little different here in the future. Eventually, his left hand will be on the bass side of the keyboard, but on day one, it’s essential to allow an inquiring mind to roam freely and ask a thousand questions.
An hour after the first lesson, he went home and set up wherever he could. 🎶🔓
