One of my favorite things about new york is how often you hear music from passing cars. In this thread I will post every song I hear this summer.

At 2:25 in this song it skips a beat and jogs back.

Probably the most played (non-live recorded) song I've seen on spotify with such an overt recording issue.

Send me other ones if you have them. I always like hearing the little mistakes.

First Bam Bam from the outdoors just heard.

It's a pantheon nyc song for me. But I used to live in PLG.

cool to see lots of people getting back in the mix here :)

what metrics does the merkle team care about rn?
Rewatched Anora and came away most impacted by Igor's character. Yura Borisov was really exceptional.

I've noticed there is an interesting class of old semi-obscure songs that have found huge popularity via Spotify's algo.

They're mostly:
- non-US artists
- 30+ years old
- easy listening but not pop

Kind of cool because these songs/artists were not chart-toppers when they came out.

Kind of annoying cuz you hear it at trendy stores and restaurants so much it's almost annoying lol.

It’s even better than I hoped it would be.

I wonder if US tech hegemony will die because of the egoes of a few dozen bros.

Not shocked to see Deepseek generate such an emotional response.

"We (big tech/silicon valley) are the best at everything and have an insurmountable edge"

Well we just know that can't be true! History proves it.
it's funny an peak nepo behavior to have north west on all these songs over the last couple years, but also kinda fun to hear excellent artists stretch and meet little kids halfway.

Bad Bunny was my top artist a few years ago. His stuff was feeling stale to me for a bit, but I'm loving these tracks with the super heavy old school influence.

Seems like it's performing well. lots of funny tik toks about the crossover.

Today is a big day for me.

Party City is closing. After almost 40 years in business.

I've wanted this for a long time. It's sad people will lose their jobs.

But party city has always represented some of the most obvious darkness of consumerism to me. Everything in the store is made cheaply and meant to be thrown away.

I hope the human energy that went into Party City will be allocated in a slightly more meaningful direction 🙏 RIP

I also just saw this. And agree with this take.

I've seen a handful of movies at the Lincoln Square IMAX (largest in the americas). And have never felt one hit like this.

The 70mm shots were surreal. Hard to explain.

Less than 8 hours after the assassination of the CEO of United in Manhattan and there is already a VHS short film on the kid tracking the killers’ CitiBike ride using the Lyft app and a python script.
I guess in a few years we'll look back on Big Social the way we look back on Big Tobacco now.

Except they'll have all our data and will have to make choices about what to do with it.

I guess they'll just reward us enough to be chill.
Has anyone read this? Finding mixed reviews online. Looks interesting.

Kai Cenat just concluded Mafiathon 2. He maintained 100-250k concurrent viewers for 30 days straight. And set records for new subs and revenue.

His impact on young people (especially boys) on the internet is massive.

At the end, he got on with his closest friends and they cried together. He talked about what it means to him to do this and encouraged people to chase their dreams.

It’s a little endearing a little corny. But its a big deal for a man with this platform to get on there and express himself this way. With his friends around him, encouraging him to let it out.

The internet will never not be a dark forest, but it’s reassuring to know young men have some role models with emotional depth :)

Have talked to several people 60+ yrs who have been shocked that Wicked is part one of a series.

They’re flabbergasted that a three hour movie is not the whole story.

People my age expected it.

Cool insight into the hyperfinancialization of culture/media and the numbness that comes with being younger and more online.
LLMs slowly warping my tolerance for nonessential information.

My own fault for using Fandango I guess, but insta closed the tab.

Nothing against Wicked - but I am in search of information.

Did you know there is one single song that has been covered by both Jeff Buckley and Lana Del Ray?

It’s called The Other Woman and is sung by Nina Simone.

When thinking about legacy in music the highest signal indication is how much other artists like an artist. Nina Simone is towards the top of the list.

Great song and artist.
