What were people's favorite races from the Olympics?
I'd say men's 1500, men's steeple, and women's marathon (stayed up til 2AM to watch it)

Great episode of Odd Lots with John Coogan @johncoogan on the nicotine industry, Zyn, Juul, etc. Posting here since he is a frequent PW contributor and PW readers might be interested.

Pogacar gains another 30" in the TT, now 1'15" ahead of Vingegaard
I think Vingegaard will gain some time back in the later mountain stages and it will be a close tour

I think that's an exaggerated takeaway. It's not like all the regulations set by agencies just got rolled back. It just means disputes about what they are allowed to regulate will be settled by the courts rather than the agencies themselves, which gave them basically no check on power.
Also, Chevron deference has been effectively dead for many years now. It's not as if the administrative state wasn't able to function in the last 8 years, or prior to 1984 when it was first ruled.

Ya, especially with Congress being so ineffective. No way they will pass legislation detailing all the intricacies needed in the regulatory process.
"Although mega-companies in tech get all the attention, 3/4ths of US industries have ossified into oligopolies, dominated by 3 or 4 names. These are often the 'bad kind', prospering by lobbying regulators & killing off competitors, not by innovating." https://www.ft.com/content/7650d057-be19-45ce-9a4e-b5ac0418d5c4

I wonder where River Page went, looks like he's not at Pirate Wires anymore. I will miss him!

How much do we love our chief regulator? We have the best regulator. This dude was born to regulate

Great episode today, and at least 3 people in the live chat mentioned they use Farcaster :D

Interesting episode with Cal Newport, author of Deep Work, on "pseudo-productivity" and "knowledge worker" burnout.

Since Zeihan was discussed on yesterday's podcast and Bitcoin just hit ATH, I'd like to dunk on the most hilariously bad crypto take of all time:

(With that said, I enjoyed his last book and still listen to his 5-minute podcast most days 🤷)

Whoa, cool. Podcast will be done live on YouTube today. https://twitter.com/PirateWires/status/1763648010167193768
The latest PW pod talked about the Fruit of the Loom Mandela Effect, yet hardly touched the surface of this rabbit hole. There are dozens of media references spanning 50 years to the cornucopia that allegedly does not exist:

Did Erik just casually mention that Elon was coming on MoZ? 🤔🔥
Excited to watch the Olympic Trials marathon tomorrow. It will be streamed on Peacock at 10am Eastern/7am Pacific. NBC will show it on tape delay at noon.

CPI up to 3.4%. I think people will continue to argue that inflation is "over" and that 3-4% is "good enough" because they want to go back to lower interest rates.

Really looking forward to the Yarvin episode. Like him or not I think his ideas will become more influential in the near future.
Wow, can't believe it's almost 2025
Finally won a virtual "race" on Zwift
Most races come down to a sprint and my sprint power isn't good, so I broke away with 1.1k and held on. Then celebrated in my living room it was the Tour de France 🤣

I pretty much agree with the arguments for banning TikTok, but is TikTok really to blame for every mass idiocy? Many young people are not only idiots, but will do *intentionally* provocative things like this (praising Bin Laden) because they know it makes you mad.

One product I'm surprised isn't more popular in the US is the countertop hot water dispenser. It keeps water hot all the time - set mine to 175°F - so it's ready for tea/Americano/whatever when you need it. Vacuum insulated so it doesn't use much power.

Does anyone use a portable monitor? Going to be working on the road and want an additional screen to my laptop. 1080p or 4k?
Bought a cheap one 6 years ago and was disappointed - pic quality was bad, HD resolution was insufficient, menu had spelling errors lmao
