Best way to think about the new direction for channels: text-based Twitter Space (or Clubhouse, /tavern, /farhouse, etc.)
- A bunch of people on stage that can talk
- Even more people in the audience listening
- If you're in the audience, you can raise your hand to speak, may get invited up, but unlikely, esp. if the audience is really large
but...with channel casts you can reply to any cast and the channel members / mods can discover it with a few clicks. So discoverability / chance of getting on stage is much better.
And remember: you can always cast in your home feed to your followers and create your own channel.

Oftentimes, Web3 teams feel pressure from their community to deliver on the roadmap, but the reality is that development timelines are long. It's reasonable for the community to feel impatient, and for the most part, this is a good thing—it means they genuinely care. What teams get wrong is trying to assuage impatience with short-term dopamine spikes like giveaways or airdrops—anything to distract from the fact they haven’t delivered a real product yet. What the community really wants is something that makes them feel connected.
What I've learned is that communities thrive on rituals, and they don't need to be elaborate or hyper-financialized. Even something as simple as a Discord bot or channel game (see /farcastles) is enough to entertain your supporters and let the community evangelize your project for you through those connections. I urge channel owners to create rituals. Games make great rituals! A simple channel bot creating an immersive world in-theme with your project makes a big difference.

h/t: We probably don't see it in the numbers yet, but creator channels like /six or /cameron will likely outperform topical channels like /fashion or /politics because users can get the latter elsewhere. Creators have their own unique culture/vibe which will attract like-minded users that want to interact with their favorite personalities. The other sleepers are functional channels like /bounties which act like textual mini-apps within the feed. Would love to see more.

From docs I read new channels can't be created so casting for newer info if that's incorrect.
Can I create a channel?
Can I rename a channel after a while and change it's use?
Is token gating easy to set up for non-coders?
Can I allow exceptions or other qualifying criteria if token gated?
I'd like the posting to be gated but viewing public. ty if anyone knows the current setup. 💛
