Here's another version of the chart I like. Network tokens are great — it's the thing that excites me most about crypto. Arcade tokens are imo very underexplored ($FLY is a new, developing example).

The industry is mature enough that we can categorize tokens based on their legal, economic, and technical properties. It shouldn't be surprising that not all tokens have the same legal status or long term economic prospects!

Here's a useful way to categorize tokens -- from network tokens to memecoins, plus a handy flowchart to help figure things out.

Can't believe the Project DIGITS computer is available in May.
Everyone is talking about payments.
The "network" in network state should stand for network effect, which is how all states form: they marshal resources created by network effects and maintain control of them.
Technology has created opportunities for new kinds of network effects and eroded old ones — implying that there could be new kinds of states.

What are the best true “OSR” rulesets and campaigns?
Has anyone played Shadowdark or Adventurer Conqueror King System: Imperial Imprint (ACKS2)? I’m hearing great things about both.
What are the best OSR style TTRPG rulesets? Shadowdark is coming up now but what others do people really like?
If this story makes sense and works, then "pay by USDC" / "pay by crypto" could work even better. I'm hoping to see this with Stripe's new crypto payment product.

Dream camera, wish it existed:
- compact (Ricoh GR III-sized)
- physical knobs for shutter speed, aperture, and ISO
- SD card
- charges via USB-C with swappable battery
- modest zoom (~24-50 range would be great) but fixed would be fine

This is one of my favorite podcasts episodes — it's about on a recent event in COMP governance, but the best part is talking with Andy Hall (a16z crypto research + Stanford) about ways crypto can uniquely solve gov challenges in new, really compelling ways.

In this new episode, we not only break down the recent Compound “governance attack” -- including discussing whether that's the right label for it or not -- but also cover online vs offline governance attacks in general, possible solutions to such governance attacks in the specific, and more.

Why and how should you launch a network token? I gave this talk at our Crypto Startup Accelerator in London about the reasons for launching tokens, and when + how to launch them. Enjoy!

I've heard that you can pay with crypto on Stripe, but I haven't seen this yet. Are there any merchants where this is enabled? I'd like to try.
Do NFT royalties have a future in crypto? The possibility of ensuring that creators get paid directly, even as assets change hands, is attractive. But there have been deep technical and economic obstacles in the way.
This piece outlines the challenges around transfer royalties + a few very crisp new ideas!

NFT royalties were never enforced onchain, even though everyone expected them to be.
Onchain royalties on secondary sales have always been an important value proposition of NFTs, but they’ve been misunderstood for a while now. In a way, NFT royalties reached product-market fit before there ever was a “product.”
Creators now have a few different solutions to choose from, but each come with tradeoffs that can be difficult to navigate.
So how do NFT royalties work, and why have they been so challenging to implement?
Here are some thoughts from @skominers, @darenmatsuoka, and myself on current designs, along with a few new ideas.

I’ll be watching the FIT21 bill debate live at 12PM ET on CSPAN. I hear the vote might be at 4PM. Any group chats convening to watch together?
Caffè Panna was exceptional. Mild vanilla and light sweetness. The high butterfat (visible in the picture) made for a perfect texture and milky taste. Honestly one of the best: 9.5/10

Notable vanilla soft serve in NYC:
- Ray's Candy Store (East Village)
- Softside (Nolita and Greenpoint)
- Ralph's (East Village)
- Soft Swerve (many locations)
- the Solato machine (22 Vanderbilt)
- Mr. Frostee (trucks)
- New York Ice Cream (trucks)
Not in order, I've tried all of these. Love soft serve.

🍦 looks like soft serve or frozen custard, not ice cream. Unfortunately, soft serve is dispensed or extruded and not scooped. :'(
What do people think of Nebula for DNA sequencing? Being able to download all 300GB and reanalyze later, privately, sounds very attractive.

Performance reviews are daunting and a lot of work, but after you get deep into revisiting what everyone has achieved over the last year the pride is incomparable. The team ships. 🥲
Memecoins have been around for a while and haven't changed much. They aren't going away, but they won't be a source of lasting innovation either.
Memecoins are just a symptom of other powerful and promising phenomena on the web: memes, social networks, permissionless verified computation, and more. Focus on those.

I just got a peek of the tech tree for Jolt and it's incredible: one of the best learning opportunities in crypto and we have a budget for external contributors. Jolt is the simplest zkVM by a long shot.

Interesting example of a bot that reads channel names, generates a generic platitude, and then posts it in the channel.
Likely farming reputation, followers, etc.
Likely farming reputation, followers, etc.

Jolt Alpha it out and it's crazy fast with more optimization opportunities remaining than any other zkVM. Since uses a many-round polynomial IOP based on sum-check + a commitment scheme for multilinear polynomials, it hasn't had all the eyes on it (like other methods). Lots of low-hanging fruit to PROVE FAST.

What are the strongest arguments for and against L3s? Assuming they’re properly secured (zk or fault dispute game).
How many Eddies have their name misspelled "Eddy" all the time?
Sometimes I have people message me "hey Eddie!" in a group chat where my name is on the screen. Not sure how this happens.

When memecoins have a moment, people who know better make tortured rationalizations. Normally they might see casino behavior as zero-sum or short-term, but fomo can use the full intellect to justify itself with elaborate stories.

Here's a new protocol out of our research lab: a market for atomic data exchange.
Could use this to create a market for expired 4844 blob data, or other witness data after statelessness comes to Ethereum. What do you think?

Taxing by inflating the money supply is so tempting politically because peoples’ first instinct is to blame the retailer for price changes. It’s not intuitive to identify the problem in the money.
Everyone knows what a wheel’s “spokes” are. The outer rims are called “felloes” and were made with bent, heated wood in the bronze age.

Ancient chariots (late bronze age) were extremely light, made with multiple kinds of wood chosen for their unique properties.

Had a huge breakthrough on a protocol design today and it came from drawing the protocol on a whiteboard and immediately seeing a visual metaphor leap out.
I've heard that this is based off a true and recent story, incredibly.

Farcaster unbundles the client from the protocol. A consequence is that other services like discovery, antispam, ranking, and monetization are also unbundled.
There's an exciting opportunity in offering these services to clients. And it only makes sense in the crypto setting with a robust, open protocol.

What a triumph that Supercast (what I'm using now) works perfectly, my hub is still working perfectly, despite Warpcast being down. Moments like this are what makes Farcaster feel like "just another part of the internet".
I love this because making a Frame is probably the fastest way to make an interactive experience someone could use with a new programming language
